Where most dedicated astronomy cameras achieve less than 10% quantum efficiency at 1000 nm, ZWO’s SWIR series excels—reaching a remarkable peak QE of 80% at 1200 nm with the ASI992MM Pro. This high sensitivity extends well into the infrared, maintaining strong performance within the visible spectrum and continuing beyond 1200 nm, with a response range up to approximately 1700–1800 nm. According to ZWO, this extended IR sensitivity allows the ASI992MM Pro to penetrate thin clouds, fog, and even daylight conditions—enabling stellar imaging well after sunrise.

At the core of this instrument is Sony’s IMX992 sensor, which offers increased resolution over previous ZWO SWIR models. The 2592 × 2056 array provides 5.3 megapixels with 3.45 μm pixels, delivering fine detail and excellent signal capacity. Each pixel supports a full-well depth of 62.8 ke- and outputs 12-bit data, ensuring broad dynamic range and precise image reproduction.
