Back illuminated sensors (BSI for short) such as the Sony IMX678 have a distinct advantage over front illuminated by having less digital noise due to the sensor construction and are superior for low light. This makes the ZWO ASI678MM Monochrome Camera a no brainer for a planetary imager!

The ASI678MM utilizes USB 3.0 interface for stable connection as well as 256MB DDR3 Memory for secure data transfer without interference. This is particularly useful for long exposures since it avoids frame dropping and unwanted glow by slow reading spead.
