This resolution is remarkable considering the compact size and affordability of the camera, and its primary selling point lies in capturing complete sky images, and the square sensor format offers distinct advantages. Unlike traditional rectangular sensors, the square shape simplifies the process of stitching together mosaic images since there are no elongated sides to contend with, meaning every side is equal. Furthermore, this format enhances compatibility with numerous fisheye and wide-angle lenses, expanding the camera's versatility for various astrophotography uses.

Often with poorly constructed sensor circuitry, amp glow can occur due to imperfections in the sensor. ZWO has ensured that any sensors they use in their cameras, including the ASI676MC IMX676 are free of this issue! This means exposures result with uniform sensor sensitivity with no glow.

The ASI676MC utilizes USB 3.0 interface for stable connection as well as 256MB DDR3 Memory for secure data transfer without interference. This is particularly useful for long exposures since it avoids frame dropping and unwanted glow by slow reading spead.

ZWO measurements and tests of the Sony IMX676 sensor resulted in a QE peak of 83%, which is a remarkable level with excellent conversion of photons into electrons, ensuring very little light is lost in the process. On top of this, the readout noise is very low as well, and these two factors combined improve Signal to Noise ratio (SNR) drastically. When adding on the cameras HCG mode, dynamic range stays constant even when high gain is set and automatically will be activated when gain is set to 180. This means readout noise is low as 0.56e and the dynamic range can reach almost as low as 11 stops.

The ZWO ASI676MC consists of an 21mm diameter 1.1mm thick IR-cut coated window in the front of the sensor to reduce infrared glare.
