ZWO ASI585MM Pro Features
- The ZWO ASI585MM Pro is a monochrome USB 3.0 camera featuring the Sony IMX585 CMOS 1/1.2" sensor.
- The camera has a resolution of 8.29MP (3840x2160) and a pixel size of 2.9μm, ideal for capturing vibrant monochrome images of celestial objects.
- The sensor utilizes Sony Starvis 2 technology to enhance sensitivity.
- Equipped with a USB 3.0 interface, the ASI585MM Pro incorporates 512MB DDR3 memory to ensure reliable and stable data transfer, reducing the risk of frame interruption and data loss during exposures.
- The IMX585 sensor features a back-illuminated design, offering a full well capacity of 47Ke, thus being a plus for astrophotography, as it allows for long exposure times in low-light conditions, resulting in a better signal-to-noise ratio.
- Improved sensor circuitry and mechanical design prevent amp glow, ensuring high-quality frames even at high gain settings and long exposure times.
- The ZWO ASI585MM Pro uses a two-stage TEC cooling to lower the sensor temperature up to 35°C below ambient, minimizing excess heat and noise during long exposures.
- The camera features HCG mode to minimize read noise at higher gain settings, maintaining image quality. The HCG gain of the ASI585 series cameras has been adjusted to 200, achieving a dynamic range of 12 bits and reducing read noise to as low as 0.9e.
- ZWO has conducted tests revealing an impressive 91% peak quantum efficiency, indicating the sensor's ability to convert photons into an electric charge efficiently.
- Various adapters and accessories are available, ensuring compatibility with standard 55mm backfocus setups.
- The ZWO ASI585MM Pro features USB 2.0, USB 3.0, and DC 12V ports, allowing connectivity with a computer, ASIAIR, or EAF. The DC 12V connection is required to enable cooling.

Sony IMX585 1/1.2" Sensor with 8.29mp Resolution
The ZWO ASI585MM Pro is a monochrome USB 3.0 camera consisting of the Sony IMX585 CMOS 1/1.2" CMOS sensor. Boasting a decent 8.29mp resolution (3840x2160) and a pixel size of 2.9μm, it has more than enough resolution quality and pixel size for stunning monochrome imaging of the cosmos for both planetary and deep sky purposes. The sensor also uses the Sony Starvis 2 technology, further improving sensitivity.
512MB DDR3 Memory
By using the USB 3.0 interface, the ZWO ASI585MM Pro is equipped with 512MB DDR3 memory to establish reliable and stable speed and reduce the risk of frame interruption and data loss between and during exposures.

Full Well Capacity of 47Ke
The IMX585 sensor in the ZWO ASI585MM Pro is a back-illuminated design, thus because it is not obstructed by front wiring on top of the photosensitive layer as is the case in front illuminated sensors, it has a full well capacity of 47Ke. This is an important metric to consider since it indicates how much charge each pixel can hold before becoming saturated. In the case of astrophotography, higher full well capacity is important since it is low light conditions and thus can tolerate long exposure times to obtain detailed frames of dimmer objects with lower surface brightness, etc. This results in a better signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).
Improved Sensor Design Zero Amp Glow
With improved sensor circuitry and mechanical design, the IMX585 doesn't suffer from amp glow which can be apparent in long exposed frames due to imperfections and variations in sensor quality throughout the frame. This ensures high-quality frames regardless of how high the gain is or exposure time, making the ZWO ASI585MM Pro very lucrative for numerous astrophotography setups.
Pristine Cooling to Reduce Noise and Dark Current
Having adequate cooling in a camera is important, especially for astrophotography since heat causes excess noise and dark current which can be especially apparent the longer exposures are. To counteract this, ZWO has implemented two stage TEC cooling to lower the sensor temperature to 35°C below ambient. This ensures excess heat doesn't interfere with sensor performance.
Low Read Noise and High Dynamic Range and 91% QE Peak Measurement
The ASI585MM Pro consists of HCG mode which keeps read noise at bay while allowing higher gain settings to be achieved without compromising quality. The mode is activated automatically when the gain is above 252 with a dynamic range resulting in 11 bits, decreasing read noise to as low as 0.9e.
ZWO has conducted numerous tests and has found an impressive 91% quantum efficiency peak. This indicates how well the sensor is at converging photons to an electric charge. The higher the QE the better overall performance.
Standard 55mm Backfocus
Various adapters and accessories will result in a standard 55mm backfocus.
Connecting Various Accessories
Using USB 2.0, USB 3.0 and DC 12V ports, the ZWO ASI585MM Pro can connect to various accessories such as a computer, ASIAIR, or EAF. To enable cooling, the DC 12V connection must be established.
