ZWO - AM7 Harmonic Equatorial Mount - Head Only
PREORDER TODAY! FIRST SHIPMENTS ARRIVE IN JUST A FEW WEEKS!
ZWO's AM7 strain wave harmonic drive mount builds on the AM series giving users a heavy duty option designed for larger instruments and heavier payloads.
This combination equatorial and alt-azimuth mount is a versatile platform capable of holding up to 30kg (66 lbs.) with a counterweight while delivering remarkable accuracy thanks to strain wave technology, making it a suitable option for larger aperture astrophotography systems than previous models.
Portable! The AM7 mount head weighs just 6.75kg (approx. 14.8 lbs.) allowing for easy transportation and set up alone in the field.
When precision matters, strain wave technology provides the accuracy you need. The AM7 periodic error is controlled witin +/- 10 arc seconds.
Smart design keeps cable management in check while providing the ports to connect to your mount for wireless or remote control.
0-90 degree altitude range means the ZWO AM7 works were you do, from equator to pole - worldwide. Temperature rated down to -20 degrees Celsius (-22 degrees Fahrenheit).
ZWO AM7 Harmonic Equatorial Mount
The ZWO AM7 is a high-capacity harmonic drive mount designed for astrophotographers running heavier imaging rigs and longer focal length telescopes. It combines precision tracking, flexible operation modes, and a compact, portable design that works equally well in the field or at a permanent setup.
With its custom harmonic drive system and high torque output, the AM7 is built to handle demanding payloads while maintaining smooth, consistent tracking. Whether you are upgrading to a larger telescope or planning for future expansion, the AM7 is designed to grow with your setup.

Capacity and Performance
The AM7 supports up to 20 kg of payload without a counterweight and up to 30 kg with counterweights installed. This gives you flexibility to run lighter travel rigs with minimal setup or heavier imaging systems when maximum stability is needed.
Each mount is individually tested before shipping and includes a unique periodic error test report. Periodic error is controlled within plus or minus 10 arcseconds, providing dependable tracking accuracy for long exposure imaging and precise GoTo performance.

Precision Harmonic Drive Design
At the core of the AM7 is ZWO’s custom harmonic drive system, developed specifically for astrophotography. The total harmonic gear reduction ratio of 300 to 1 delivers strong torque and smooth motion under load. This design minimizes backlash and helps maintain consistent tracking performance, even with heavier telescopes.

Clean Cable Management and Fast Setup
The AM7 is built to reduce cable clutter and simplify setup. Integrated USB C and DC power ports are located directly on the dovetail saddle, allowing you to route power and data through the mount instead of around it. This results in a cleaner rig, fewer snags, and faster setup and teardown.
A magnetic hex wrench is included and stores directly on the mount body, so it is always within reach when adjustments are needed in low light conditions.

Dual Mode Operation
The AM7 supports both equatorial and alt azimuth modes, allowing one mount to handle both imaging and visual observing.
Equatorial mode is optimized for accurate sky tracking and astrophotography.
Alt azimuth mode is ideal for visual observing, quick sessions, and outreach events.
Mode selection is confirmed by indicator lights on the mount, with red indicating equatorial mode and green indicating alt azimuth mode.

Worldwide Usability
With a full altitude adjustment range from 0 to 90 degrees, the AM7 can be aligned and used at any latitude on Earth. A two stage adjustment system allows fine control from 0 to 60 degrees using the altitude knob, and extended adjustment from 30 to 90 degrees using a secondary hex screw position. This makes the mount suitable for travel, remote observing, or permanent installations anywhere in the world.
Software Integration
The AM7 works seamlessly with the Sky Atlas mobile app for iOS and Android, offering live star maps, object search, GoTo commands, and curated observing suggestions.
It is also fully compatible with ASIAIR in station mode. Because both products are part of the ZWO ecosystem, integration is straightforward and reliable, with ongoing software updates designed to work together without driver conflicts.
Control Options and Connectivity
The AM7 offers multiple control methods so you can choose what fits your observing style.
Wi Fi and Bluetooth connectivity allow wireless control from a smartphone or tablet. Bluetooth enables quick direct connections without switching networks, while Wi Fi provides a stable option for more complex setups.
The included joystick style smart hand controller serves as both a control interface and a connection hub. It features an integrated Wi Fi hotspot, a simple web interface for settings, and built in firmware update support for both the mount and controller.
Bluetooth can be easily enabled or disabled, making the AM7 suitable for environments that require tighter wireless control, such as remote observatories.

Portable and Cold Weather Ready
Despite its high payload capacity, the AM7 weighs approximately 6.5 to 6.75 kg, making it easy to transport and set up in the field. The mount is rated for operation down to minus 20 degrees Celsius, ensuring reliable performance during cold winter observing sessions.

Counterweight Use and Torque Guidelines
The AM7 can operate without counterweights up to 20 kg of payload. When counterweights are used, ZWO recommends a maximum counterweight of 10 kg installed with a moment arm between 20 cm and 30 cm.
Allowable counterweight placement depends on mass and must satisfy the torque range of 20 to 30 newton meters. This provides flexibility while maintaining safe and stable operation.
