Product Description

The HOME-DOME (HD10) is less expensive than the PD10, and is build upon essentially for onstructure establishment. The HD10 can fit most Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes up to 16" and Newtonians (on German Equatorials) up to 16" diameter. Big yoke-mounted Newtonians might require a bigger dome or an off center telescope mount. Constructed to the same elevated requirement of all TI domes, the HDl0 has a 5' high dome made of two pairs of "quadrants" bolted together along internal flanges. The dome sits on a 12" high base ring that uses the ball bearing rollers for dome rotation. A converse flange at the top of the base ring covers the roller area and keeps the dome safe from wind. The opening of the shutter is a generous 36" wide, reaching up to zenith coordinates and 16" past. Two shutters open by sliding up and over the dome, then come together outside the back cover. As in every one of our observatories, two integral, automatic latches lock the shutter together for security when shut.

Since none of the segments of the HD10 weights more than around 45 lb, it is easy to assemble without utilization of cranes, even on top of high structures. Likewise with our other domes , the HD10 must be safely mounted on a solid support structure. Rectangular and circular skirts often ease the transition to the existing or newly constructed structure. The domes utilize bolt-together construction. Setup requires alignment of parts, measuring and drilling bolt holes, and utilization of normal hand and power instruments. Bigger openings, for rollers and latches, are cut and completed at the factory. The normal setup time required: two individuals, two days.

The two shutters move up-and-over, automatically separating amid opening to settle together at the back of the dome when open. This legally patented configuration makes the full shutter opening accessible to the stargazer (and helps with sky introduction for beginners). The domes rotates easily on hard rubber, ball-bearing rollers mounted on the base ring. You can add engines to rotate the dome and move the shutters, and even control the dome remotely.

Weatherproofing is guaranteed by covering flanges and baffling rather than seals that would cause wear and tear. Temperature control is given by a splendid white outside gel coat that regulates inside temperature within a couple of degrees of the shade temperature, so no cool-down period is required before your watching session starts. A dark blue interior helps preserve dark adaptation.
