The SkyProdigy Series has the built-in StarSense feature, a self-alignment feature that takes the user directly from assembling the scope immediately to observing without having to take the time to properly align. This telescope is an easy setup. All the observer must do it mount the optical tube on the fork arm. Once properly assembled and mounted, the telescope can align itself. By using an attached digital camera, the camera will take a series of snapshots at a certain section of the sky and by matching it against its database, can determine what coordinates of the sky that is and therefore can align itself. There is a 4,000 object database in the NexStar hand controller system which includes the planets and thousands of deep sky objects to slew to. Using the included SkyX First Light Edition astronomy software, there is 10,000 object database, printable sky maps and celestial images for the viewer to learn the night sky.
The Celestron SkyProdigy 102 Refractor Computerized Telescope, has more than twice the light gathering power of the SkyProdigy 70 for a total of 212x. With a f/6.47 focal ratio, this refractor is great for planetary observing, but may also provide quite impressive views of high surface brightness, deep sky objects as well such as planetary nebula and globular clusters due to its light gathering power and focal ratio. Due to the refractive design of the optical tube and very small field of view, detail of the planets will be easily seen. The cloud bands of Jupiter are easily visible including the moons and the divisions inside Saturn's rings as well.
