The SBIG Aluma 814 features the Sony ICX-814ALG 9.2M pixel sensor and includes SBIG's 8 position self guiding filter wheel. Using Sony's EXmor HAD CCD II structure, sensitivity is further heightened for a camera that is well suited to deep sky astrophotography, microscopy and spectroscopy. A two stage TE cooling system keeps the camera at the ideal temperature through the night and a mind blowing exposure range of .001 seconds to 49 days gives you the ultimate flexibility to fit your imaging needs.

SBIG Aluma 814 CCD Monochrome Camera with Self Guiding Filter Wheel Package

The SBIG Aluma 814 is a high sensitivity research grade Interline CCD camera using the Sony ICX-814ALG imaging sensor for high-quality, high resolution results. It can boast several features that are unique among research grade CCD cameras; it includes two-stage cooling, USB 2.0 and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n interfaces, ultra-reliable even-illumination shutter, and fast low-noise readout. The SBIG Aluma 814 camera can be operated remotely through Wi-Fi using a tablet, smartphone, or any kind of personal computer. It is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. 

The mechanical shutter in use with the Aluma 814 has a minimum exposure time of 0.001 seconds, and an incredibly long exposure time of up to 49 days, meaning that in typical imaging sessions this camera can go for as long as you would ever possibly need. The built in cooling system is a robust thermoelectric system using two-stage cooling in the form of a pair of variable speed fans and a high-efficiency heat sink. The maximum cooling delta of this temperature control system is -50 Celsius below surrounding temperature, keeping your camera at an ideal temperature at all times. 

Body design was a strong consideration for the Aluma series of cameras too and designed to accomodate astronomers hoping to lighten their set ups. A compact form factor of just 4.25x4.25x4 inches (or 3.5" deep without handles attached), the camera weighs just 2.2 pounds making it lighter and smaller than it's predecessors and easily handled by most high performance focusers on the market without flexure.  A mechanical shutter is highly reliable for accurate dark and bias calibration frames. 

The camera includes a special version of MaxIm DL from Diffraction Limited designed specifically for SBIG cameras.  The camera is also fully compatible with ASCOM and SBIG native drivers.  

About the Sony ICX-814ALG Sensor... 

Sony's ICX-814ALG sensor delivers high sentivity performance paired with high frame rates and high resolution for a sensor that performs exceptionally well in astronomy applications. The 9.2M pixel sensor has a built-in 4 channel multi output and progressive scan mode that supports full HD video output as well.  A large sensor, with a diagonal of 15.972mm, the ICX-814ALG utilizes EXview HAD CCD II structure for higher sensitivity in the infrared region of the spectrum.   Applications that require this kind of sensitivy such as astro-imaging of deep sky objects like nebulae, star clusters and gaseous regions of the night sky, microscopy  and spectroscopy will find the Aluma 814 well suited to the task.
