Eyepiece arrived in very sharp box, well-packaged and protected. Very clean execution, solid feel in the hand, a beauty to look at. Got to try this out in an Intes MN61, f/6 scope and a TAL200k, an f/8.5 scope. Not for daytime viewing, but no issue there for me. Eye-relief is close, above 10mm, and need to be close anyway to take in the full view. Certainly a step up from 82-degree EPs, I have no doubt it approaches the 100-degree AFOV claimed. At f/6 barrel distortion shows up around the last 10-degrees, but in general the view is bright and contrasty, looking at Jupiter as it drifted across the field of view the sharpness held up very well until the last couple of degrees, and even then only slightly distorted. I enjoyed the lack of flaring and ghosting compared to Meade's 4000 UWA series....simply absent. When I used an older Orion Ultrascopic 2x long barlow, any aberrations seen before disappeared and all was tack sharp to the extreme edge, and the extra eye-relief the barlow imparted was helpful. My TAL200k presented less lateral color looking at Jupiter...it usually presents none at all anywhere in the field of view. The longer focal length seemed to tighten up any distortions at the extreme edge, and color correction seemed well-controlled across the entire field of view as I let Jupiter drift across from edge to edge. Stars and close doubles are crisp and pinpoint...I felt the contrast and light-throughput compared very well to simpler EPs like my Brandons and Zeiss .965" orthos.
The eyepiece is not as large or as heavy as I expected and has been comfortable to use. The flip-up rubber eyeguard is something I really like over the twist-up barrel the. Meade 5000 SWAs and UWAs utilized. A very fun EP, well made and a good price! (Posted on 5/20/2015)
