Product Description

Celestron - CGEM II Equatorial Mount

Celestron has updated the ever popular CGEM mount.  The Celestron CGEM II equatorial mount includes new ergonomic design features, the All Star alignment procedure, and legendary Celestron mount performance.  An instrument capacity of up to 40 pounds allows this mount to carry an 11" optical tube with ease.

The CGEM II includes extra large Altitude and Azimuth adjustment knobs so you can polar align easily, even in cold weather while wearing gloves. A dual saddle plate will accept both V and D series dovetails. Internal mount wiring keeps the exterior of your mount free from cables and prevents cable tangling or wrapping. Celestron's AllStar polar alignment procedure allows you to use any star in the night sky whether the celestial pole can be seen or not.  The results are accurate polar alignment, tracking, and pointing.  The Celestron CGEM II will track far beyond the meridian for uninterrupted tracking.  Permanent Periodic Error Correction (PEC) will train the mount's worm gears over time to remove natural errors that occur during tracking.

Included with the Celestron CGEMII is a USB hand controller with over 40,000 objects and 100 user-defined objects plus enhanced information on over 200 objects.  The mount's tripod include height marked adjustable legs so you can quickly setup.   If you were considering a Celestron AVX mount but worried it would be too lightweight, the CGEM II is a perfect fit providing a stable base for larger optical tubes and heavier imaging systems.

Having bought this mount a while back, I have found this to be a great mid size work horse of a mount. It will properly support most any telescope that you want to but on it for both visual and astro-photography. It is not to heavy to carry out in the field, but still solid enough to be place in a permanent observatory. The saddle will hold both V and D type bars and gives a good solid feel to the telescope. I use mine mostly when i want to do some serious photography up in a dark site. I feel it does a better control of the telescope for tracking when using my larger SCT or Refractor telescope. I have the AVX mount also so i can say if you plan on using larger scopes this would be a good mount to use over the AVX. It is a bit heaver but that brings some stability to the imaging process. Well built and the tripod all seems to perform very well. Easy to set up and align and an overall great mount. I wish Celestron would have improved the method to do polar alignment just a bit, you have to loosen the mount to move it wish is just a bit of a pain, but you can still make it work.
