Product Description

The CELESTRON Advanced VX mount provides you with many of the features found on Celestron’s most sophisticated German Equatorial Mounts, at an extremely affordable price.!  Astroimagers and Visual Astronomers will appreciate the increased portability of the VX due to its lighter weight, while still using the powerful alignment and slewing tools found in larger mounts like the CGE Pro and CGEM.  The Advanced VX  is still stout enough to handle an 11" SCT due to the very solid stainless steel Tripod with 2" diameter legs.  The All-Star Polar Alignment feature makes polar alignment  a breeze.  The programmable Periodic Error Correction built into the mount also assists in steady imaging  since it eliminates tracking errors in the mount's brass drive gears thus minimizing  image shifting during longer exposures. Due to the intelligent design of the VX, the meridian can also be imaged without flipping the mount around - a major plus for astrophotography!  The Celestron Advanced VX Mount can be used between 7-77 degrees latitude and utilizes the NexStar hand controller for slewing and locating objects.

 Celestron Advanced VX Mount Features:

  • Integer gear ratios and permanently programmable Periodic Error Correction eliminates recurring track errors from the worm gear.
  • New motors offer improved tracking performance & provide more power to overcome load imbalances
  • Updated industrial design offers more rigidity, less flexure and improved aesthetics
  • New design allows viewing or imaging across the meridian without interference from the motors housings
  • Improved latitude range.  Can be used between 7 – 77 degrees latitude.
  • Improved electronics with increased memory for future expansion
  • NexStar+ hand control offers multiple language programming (English, French, Italian, German, Spanish)

This is an awesome mount, especially for the price. I use it with my 11 inch Celestron optical tube and have absolutely no problems. Would I recommend this for imaging? I'm no expert on that but I'd say for basic imaging and shorter term exposures, absolutely. Especially at lower magnifications and smaller optical tubes. There is a little vibration when focusing at high magnification. It settles quickly, but it's enough to wreck imaging. That being said don't let the naysayers fool you. Alignment is simple and extremely accurate if done properly. I can get objects from the solar system to deep sky DEAD center in a 17MM eyepiece doing a 2 two star alignment. The tracking is spot on. I've left objects in the eyepiece over 20 minutes and absolutely no noticeable movement. The hand controller is very easy to use and provides you with a nice database of various objects in the cosmos. The mount is surprisingly quiet when slewing and the two inch tripod legs make it very sturdy.

The only thing to be aware of that I can think of is this thing can get HEAVY depending on your optical tube size and counter weights. This isn't necessarily "grab-N-go" mount. But setup and take down is pretty quick and painless. Make sure to take the time to balance it so you don't wear the motors out, and I always level the mount BEFORE putting the tube on. Just use caution and take your time with it since it can get heavy. If you do that, trust me you won't be disappointed its performance. (Posted on 4/1/2016)
