CELESTRON - Advanced VX 6" Refractor Telescope on AVX Computerized Mount (22020)

A major benefit of refractor based telescopes are that they have no mirror obstruction since they use primarily lenses, meaning contrast is very sharp when viewing with these optical designs which is one reason they're the preferred optical tube for planetary observing. Celestron's 6" Refractor is great for observing planets or other objects with high surface brightnesses at high magnification, but also excel at brighter deep sky imaging when using CCD cameras like the Celestron Nightscape. For planetary imaging, the NexImage 5 Solar System Imager is recommended.

Celestron's Advanced VX has most of the same features found in the most advanced Celestron mounts but at a smaller price! Astrophotographers will certainly find this mount useful because it has it is capable of mounting smaller end optical tubes such as most of the Schmidt-Cassegrain optical tubes while still using the powerful alignment and slewing tools found in larger mounts like the CGE Pro and CGEM. The All-Star Polar Alignment is probably one of the best features since it strives to give the best alignment possible to the celestial pole so imaging can go more smoothly. The Periodic Error Correction built into the mount also assists in longer exposures since it counteracts constant errors in the mount's drive gears which minimize shifts during exposures. Much like the higher-end mounts, the meridian can also be imaged without flipping the mount around, a major plus for astrophotography! The Celestron Advanced VX Mount can be used between 7-77 degrees latitude and utilizes the NexStar hand controller for slewing and finding objects.

For planetary imaging and brighter deep-sky objects, many astroimagers say there’s no better choice than a refractor. Unlike Schmidt-Cassegrain or Newtonian telescopes that have a secondary mirror, refractors offer no obstruction of the aperture, giving you the highest possible contrast. This refractor setup features an f/8 objective lens, which can be paired with one of our Nightscape CCD cameras to image brighter deep-sky objects or our NexImage 5 Solar System Imager to create dazzling images of the planets.

  • PEC counteracts worm gear errors
  • Improved tracking performance
  • Overcomes load imbalances
  • Image and view across the meridian without interference
  • 7-77 degree latitude
  • NexStar hand controller software

Product Series

Engineered from the ground up with astroimaging in mind, the new Advanced VX series from Celestron sets a new standard in mid-level telescopes. Advanced VX provides you with many of the features found on Celestron’s most sophisticated German equatorial mounts, at an extremely affordable price.

The new Advanced VX mount was specifically designed to provide optimum imaging performance for smaller telescopes. Now your smaller telescope (30 lbs. and under) can take advantage of all the features of our larger telescope mounts. You’ll be able to track through long exposures using permanently programmable periodic error correction. Image across the meridian without doing a meridian flip, so you can seamlessly image the best part of night sky. Advanced VX features a significantly larger base than our previous design, improving stability under heavy loads. Improved motors offer more torque and can hande slight load imbalances with ease.

Experienced imagers will love taking this portable mount to a dark sky site, with all the performance of their larger observatory mount. Or, if you’re new to imaging, this mount will help you get started with the hobby and keep up with your needs for years to come.
