CELESTRON • LCM76 3" Newtonian Reflector Computerized Telescope • 31151

For basic astronomy viewing, the Celestron LCM76 Newtonian Reflector will suit those needs. The telescope can be assembled and set up in no time, simply mount the optical base and observing can begin - absolutely no additional tools are necessary! Since this telescope has a mid fast focal ratio of f/9, specifically brighter objects such as planets, the moon and even some brighter deep sky objects will look quite impressive. The observer will be able to capture details in the rings of Saturn, cloud bands and moons of Jupiter, Mars, phases of Venus and craters on the moon. A 25mm and 9mm eyepiece are both included, resulting in magnifications of 28x and 78x.

Learning the night sky can be quite intimidating at first, especially when first setting up a telescope in a location not affected by light pollution. The sheer number of stars visible in dark sky locations will amaze (and possibly confuse) you.  Most alignment procedures require very basic knowledge of the night sky such as knowing the names of two stars. While this may be no issue from the city, when first observing in a dark sky, it can be tough to know which stars are which. Celestron has solved this problem! The SkyAlign method requires no knowledge of the night sky. All that is required is the entry of time, date and location in the NexStar Hand Controller. Once this is entered, three bright stars (or planets) must be selected and centered in the eyepiece. Based upon the distances, axis, and coordinates between these three reference points, the software is able to calculate matching against its database what three stars were most likely selected as a result. Once completed, observing can begin! All LCM Computerized Telescopes have the SkyAlign feature.
