30 fps Shooting with AF/AE & Pre-Capture

AI-Based Real-time Recognition AF+

8K 30/4K 120 10-Bit Video + Dual Gain

Exmor RS BSI Sensor and BIONZ XR2 Processor:

  • The 66.8MP Exmor RS BSI sensor, which is the highest resolution of any a7 camera so far, has been developed. It features a fully stacked design and is capable of delivering 5.6x faster readout speeds.
  • This makes it ideal for AWB, AF, and AE applications. The Exmor RS 66.8MP BSI sensor features a robust and rich image quality with a wide dynamic range and a high-quality image with low shadow noise.
  • Its structure and copper wiring layer help improve the data transmission speed and create 14-bit stills with an ISO sensitivity range of 100-32000.
  • The new Bionz XR2 processing engine is designed to provide faster shooting speeds and better image quality with an integrated AI unit.
  • It can also handle various AI tasks, such as quick subject recognition and intelligent AF. In addition, it eliminates motion distortions and rolling shutter for a smoother and more accurate rendering of moving subjects.

Pre-Capture & Speed Boost:

  • For the first time, the a7R-series camera has been equipped with shooting modes that are designed specifically for sports and wildlife shooting. When the shutter button is pressed, the a7R VI will automatically start recording at 30 frames per second.
  • Users can then save their images to their memory card by pressing the shutter. Through the Speed Boost feature, users can automatically switch their camera's shooting mode to a faster one to ensure that their next shot is taken exactly as they intended it. Photographers can also choose from a variety of frame rates up to 30 frames per second.

8.5-Stop IBIS:

  • In addition to supporting up to 8 stops of continuous shake compensation at the center of a frame, the IBIS system now has support for up to 7 stops on the periphery. This new 5-axis stabilization system features a high-performance sensor and an optimized algorithm for better shake control.
  • In addition, there's a new Active IS mode for video that adds more precise stabilization techniques for smooth footage. The system has also been updated with an improved algorithm that can be used with certain OSS-enabled lenses.

Pixel Shift Multi Shooting:

  • The ability to achieve even higher resolution with the 66.8MP Sony sensor is achieved through a unique compositing mode. This mode works in conjunction with the stabilization of the sensor, and it allows you to take 4 or 16 continuous exposures in order to obtain approximately 265.8MP worth of data.
  • This data can then be transferred to the software suite used by Sony Imaging. Multi-image noise reduction and HDR modes can be used to create a single frame from 4-32 raw images. They can also reduce apparent noise and widen the dynamic range.

Accurate Exposure and Color:

A new algorithm for auto-exposure can help balance portraits by identifying the skin area in the face. This method is about 20% more reliable than its predecessor, even in direct sunlight or in situations where the subject is not facing the camera. The use of deep learning techniques and external IR and visible light sensors can help improve the accuracy of auto white balance and color reproduction.

AI Processing Unit:

  • The a7R VI has been equipped with an AI processing unit, which has been designed to improve its subject recognition and autofocus. This new feature allows you to capture more accurate and stable images with varying subject types.
  • The AI processing unit has been used to improve the accuracy of portraits by allowing it to track the position of the head and body in real-time. It has also been able to detect smaller and distant subjects and improve its stability in crowded environments.
  • The AI processing unit has been used to recognize different animal types, such as cats and dogs. It has been able to focus on their eyes and recognize their heads and bodies.
  • With the ability to spot the entire insect subject, it offers a superior level of recognition. The ability to recognize the plane's nose or the front section of a train is a great advantage for capturing fast-moving subjects.
  • AI-based subject recognition is ideal for capturing fast-moving individuals in real-time, and it can be used to track the position of those around you. In addition, human pose estimation can help the camera distinguish people from each other and keep its focus on the one subject.

Advanced Fast Hybrid AF:

  • A fast hybrid AF system is designed to provide a precise and quick focusing response to various lighting conditions, even in low-light situations. It features a dense 759 phase-detect point grid, and it can be used in all recording modes.
  • The ability to use the lens' focus ring with full-time DMF allows you to manually focus on a different subject even while using AF. This system is ideal for capturing moving subjects, as it features a continuous shooting rate of up to 30 fps.
  • It also calculates full-time AF between each frame at a rate of 60 fps. The lens can be used with a variety of focus area shapes to create a customized focus area that fits to the specific needs of different subjects. In-camera focus bracketing is also available, which allows you to create a variety of composite images by sequentially shifting focus points.

AF During Video Recording:

  • With Real-Time Eye AF, you can easily track and detect the eyes of animals, birds, and humans while shooting. The Focus Map is a unique tool that visualizes the depth of field and allows you to identify which parts of the image are in front and behind the focus point.
  • The AF Assist feature is a built-in feature of the FX6 digital camera that allows you to automatically switch to manual focus when using AF. This allows you to focus on a specific subject while recording.
  • One of the most unique features of the digital camera is the ability to automatically adjust the settings on the lens when using AF to smooth out the transitions between focusing and shooting. This mode also corrects for any changes in the composition caused by shifting focus.

Video Recording:

  • The a7R VI is a hybrid camera that takes a leap forward in terms of its capabilities when it comes to video. Its improved capabilities make it even more versatile. Its built-in features allow it to record at 8K/30/24p with a 10-bit resolution and 4K 120P with a full pixel readout.
  • It can also be used with Super 35 recording to create 4K 60p videos with enhanced detail. Through the use of AI processing, it can recognize the subject in photos. It can also automatically adjust the settings to make sure that the subject is in focus.
  • Its Dynamic Active Mode stabilization helps keep the subject in focus even while moving and walking. Its built-in features include a variety of features such as the S-Cinetone profile and the S-Log2/3 gamma curve.
  • It can also be used to create videos with a variety of color control options. One of its built-in features is the ability to reduce the effects of focusing on objects in focus when using certain lenses.
  • A sigma-shaped graphite heat sink integrated into the stabilization unit helps improve the device's heat resistance. It can help boost the recording speeds of 4K 120p and 8k 30p videos up to 120 minutes when the temperature is 77 degrees Fahrenheit. A new Dual Gain feature has also been added to help minimize the noise in videos without affecting the shadow detail.
  • This mode can help create videos with a wider dynamic range and smooth tonal gradation. It limits the maximum frame rate, as well as the resolution and ISO, except with S-Log3.
  • Since this mode's readout speed is reduced, it's ideal for capturing interiors, landscapes, and other static subjects. When using the optional A4 adapter, it can be used with the camera to create videos with 4-channel audio and 96 kHz sampling rates.
  • Separate WAV files can also be saved in the device. A noise reference microphone has been added to help reduce the background noise in videos. This can be used with either the onboard or external microphone. The multi-interface shoe features a digital audio input that accepts 24-bit audio with four channels attached microphones.
