The new series of Sky-Watcher's Virtuoso GTi Tabletop Goto Dobsonians feature a new state-of-the-art design for beginner visual observers who want the convenience, flexibility, and light-gathering power of a reflector—and WIFI is now a bonus!
The Sky-Watcher's Virtuoso GTi 130 Tabletop Goto Dobsonian is an upgraded design from the traditional Virtuoso with a larger aperture, faster focal ratio, and WIFI connection for control from a smartphone, making observing a breeze!
The optics come with Sky-Watcher's Radiant Aluminum Quartz (RAQ) coatings for improved visual performance and has all the accessories and tools necessary for observing right out of the box including but not limited to a red dot finder and two beginner eyepieces. Adding the SkyScan Pro app (available for both iOS and Android), 10,000 celestial objects are instantly available for observations at the user's fingertips! Simply align the telescope using one of four methods and the user is set!
Setting up the Mount
The Sky-Watcher Virtuoso GTi 130 Tabletop GoTo Dobsonian is easy to set up and use!
The first step is configuring the Virtuoso GTi mount. To do this, all the user must do is loosen the altitude clutch wheel and saddle to insert the dovetail groove and tighten. Then simply insert the telescope dovetail plate into the groove and verify everything is tightened by the locking knob. Next, loosen the clutch knob to obtain optimal balance. Then finally move the dovetail bar back and forth to reach the proper altitude axis. Piece of cake!
Once the initial setup of the mount is complete, all the user must do is loosen the knob wheels of altitude and azimuth to easily move in their respective directions. Next plug in the SynScan hand control in the hand control port to begin operating the mount.
Alternatively, the telescope can also be controlled via the free SynScan App (iOS and Android compatible). The user needs to ensure the Wifi is turned on the mount to use this feature.
While using the mount electronically is ideal, especially for beginner observers who may not have superior knowledge of the night sky, there are times when manual control is preferred. Luckily, Sky-Watcher has solved this problem with the Freedom Find function; allowing manual control without the need for realignment when switching back to automatic. All that must be done is to re-lock the clutches when switching modes. The Freedom Find function can also be disabled if the user chooses to do so.
Using the Telescope
The first handy tool for using the telescope is the red dot finder which is included. After aligning the red dot finder, all the user must do is look through the sight tube and verify that the red dot lines up with the intended object.
After setting up the red dot finder, the next step is properly focusing the telescope. The user should just adjust and turn the knobs accordingly until the image through the eyepiece is sharp.
The third step is choosing the eyepiece. This largely depends on what the observer intends to view as this determines the magnification by dividing the telescope focal length by the eyepiece focal length.
