Sky-Watcher - Starlux 190mm Maksutov-Newtonian Optical Tube Assembly
- The Sky-Watcher Starlux 190mm Maksutov-Newtonian Optical Tube Assembly gives an edge up in optical performance for both astrophotographers and visual observers alike.
- Outstanding contrast and field correction is obtained with the unique optics of the Maksutov Newtonian design, making crisp images easier to obtain.
- The Mak corrector removes the need for an additional field flattener due to already removing coma in the concave curved lens. This will work for any APS-C camera sensor.
- Less expensive and more lightweight, thus making it more portable to take to different locations and reducing the need for a more expensive mount.
- Both primary and secondary mirrors coated with RAQ coatings generating 94% reflectivity.
- Corrector plate coated with MHTC coatings.
- Aluminum design with glossy black diamond metal flake finish.
- Ambient temperature is achived quicker with the cooling vents, improving the ideal environment for a successfull astrophotography session.
- Knife edge baffles help reduce glare.
- Starlux 190MN comes with a 8x50 right angle finderscope, 2" T-ring adapter, 2" Dual Speed Crayford focuser with 1.25" adapter and a V style dovetail with mounting rings.
Sky-Watcher Starlux 190mm Maksutov-Newtonian Optical Tube Assembly
The Sky-Watcher Starlux 190mm Maksutov-Newtonian Optical Tube Assembly is the perfect match for astrophotographers and visual observers who want an edge in optical performance that less expensive optical tubes and different tube designs cannot deliver. Having decent contrast and a superb field correction is a crucial factor in getting good crisp exposures and visual views and that is exactly what the Starlux 190mm Maksutov Newtonian delivers!
While reduction of coma and providing a flat field is excellent, having decent reflectivity and removal of any aberration is just as important. With the primary and secondary mirrors being coated with Radiant Aluminum Quartz (RAQ) and the corrector coated with Metallic High Transmission Coatings (MHTC), 94% reflectivity is obtained and aberration is virtually eliminated. In addition, knife edge baffles reduce glare.
One of the benefits of a Maksutov-Newtonian design is the ability of the Mak corrector to provide flat fields without the need for an additional or external field flattener for up to a crop sensor size (APS-C). The method in which this is accomplished has to do with the spherical primary mirror being corrected on the meniscus curved lens, thus removing coma and generating pinpoint stars across the field of view. This also removes the need to spend the extra bucks on a refractor with ED glass to remove false color since this is already done in the process. This reduces the cost of the unit as well as the weight when compared to a refractor.
The exterior design of the optical tube is composed of aluminum coated with a glossy black diamond metal flake finish for the nice appearance.
To bring down and keep the optical tube to ambient temperature, cooling vents are installed on the front and rear of the tubes for faster setup time. This helps remove the risk of noise or dark current signal which can ruin exposures and ultimately an entire observing session if doing long exposure photography.
