Sharpstar - SCA310 f/3.8 Cassegrain Astrograph Optical Tube Assembly

SCA310 Features

  • Large 310 mm aperture with a fast f/3.8 focal ratio delivers exceptional light-gathering power, enabling shorter exposure times and higher deep-sky imaging efficiency, revealing fine structures and rich color in extremely faint nebulae.
  • Cassegrain reflector design with a high-precision parabolic primary mirror, requiring advanced grinding and testing to suppress spherical aberration and produce crisp, pinpoint stars across the field.
  • Precisely matched spherical secondary mirror made from fused silica for excellent thermal stability, folding a long focal length into a compact, portable optical tube.
  • Enhanced aluminum coatings on both mirrors with >95% reflectivity, maximizing light throughput and overall optical efficiency.
  • Built-in 3" triplet coma corrector with one ED glass element, correcting coma and field curvature for sharp, round stars from center to edge.
  • Optimized for medium-format imaging, fully illuminating full frame sensors with near 100% illumination and a flat field.
  • Optical system engineered to eliminate additional backfocus calculations, enabling fast, straightforward focusing and a streamlined imaging workflow.
  • Lightweight yet durable carbon fiber optical tube, offering high rigidity and thermal stability while minimizing focus drift from temperature changes.
  • Hollow multi-slot top handle for easy transport and accessory mounting; 405 mm Losmandy style dovetail on the bottom for secure compatibility with most equatorial mounts.
  • Upgraded 3.5" high-rigidity RP focuser with 28mm travel, dual speed 1:10 fine focus, and high load capacity for smooth, slip-free operation with heavy imaging trains.
  • Front mounted 360° focuser rotator to prevent cable tangling; rear M68, M54, and M48 adapters for broad equipment compatibility, with an integrated 2" filter thread on the M48 adapter.
  • Three rear mounted cooling fans to rapidly cool the primary mirror before observation, accelerating thermal stabilization and improving imaging performance.
  • Designed to deliver an efficient, stable, and highly rewarding deep-sky astrophotography experience with the Sharpstar SCA310.

Large Aperture, Fast Optics, Uncompromising Performance

Featuring a large 310mm aperture and a fast f/3.8 focal ratio, the Sharpstar SCA310 delivers outstanding light-gathering power. This enables much shorter exposure times and higher imaging efficiency in deep-sky astrophotography, revealing intricate structures and rich color even in extremely faint nebulae. As a Cassegrain reflector built around a high-precision parabolic primary mirror. This aspheric surface requires advanced grinding and testing to effectively suppress spherical aberration, producing crisp, pinpoint stars across the field.

Its precisely matched spherical secondary mirror is crafted from fused silica, providing excellent thermal stability. This design allows a long focal length to be folded into a compact optical tube, combining strong performance with convenient portability.

Both primary and secondary mirrors feature enhanced aluminum coatings with over 95% reflectivity, maximizing light throughput and overall optical efficiency.

Precision Corrected Optics with Lightweight Carbon Fiber Tube

A built-in 3" triplet coma corrector at the rear of the optical tube, incorporating one ED glass element that effectively corrects coma and field curvature, delivering sharp, round stars from the center to the edges of the image.

Optimized for medium-format imaging, the SCA310 fully illuminates full-frame sensors, achieving near 100% illumination and a flat field even when used with full-frame cameras.

The optical system has been carefully engineered to eliminate the need for additional back focus calculations during imaging, allowing for fast, straightforward focusing and a more streamlined workflow.

The optical tube is constructed from lightweight yet durable carbon fiber, reducing overall weight while offering excellent rigidity and thermal stability. This minimizes focus drift caused by temperature changes, ensuring consistent imaging performance.

Heavy-Duty Mechanics for Demanding Imaging Setups

A hollow top handle allows for easy transport, while its multi-slot design supports the attachment of various accessories. The bottom is fitted with a 405 mm Losmandy-style dovetail plate, compatible with most equatorial mounts. Fully CNC-machined with a widened, reinforced profile, it provides secure and reliable mounting.

The upgraded 3.5-inch high-rigidity rack-and-pinion focuser offers a 28 mm focusing travel and dual-speed control with a 1:10 fine-focus ratio. Its enhanced load capacity ensures smooth, stable operation even with heavy imaging setups, eliminating slippage.

A front-mounted 360° rotator on the focuser prevents cable tangling during use. At the rear, multiple threaded adapters (M68, M54, and M48) ensure compatibility with a wide range of imaging equipment. The M48 adapter includes an integrated 2-inch filter thread for direct filter installation.

Three integrated cooling fans at the rear of the telescope can be activated before observation to rapidly cool the primary mirror, speeding up thermal stabilization and improving both imaging efficiency and overall user experience.

With the SCA310, you can embark on a deep-sky imaging journey that is efficient, stable, and richly rewarding.
