Ricoh - GR IV Monochrome Digital Camera Key Features:
B&W-Only Recording; No Color Array
Built-In Red Contrast Filter
25.7MP APS-C BSI CMOS Sensor
New 28mm f/2.8 Lens (Full-Frame Equiv.)
Monochrome Distinctions:
The APS-C CMOS sensor from Sony has a 25.7MP resolution. It does not have an anti-aliasing filter or a color filter array, which enables it to capture monochromatic images with just luminance values for enhanced clarity. Since the sensor doesn't have color interpolation, black and white images are produced with more natural-looking tones. The GR IV Monochrome uses a built-in Red Contrast Filter that's included in the lens unit. This feature, which only accepts red wavelengths, can enhance the presentation of outdoor scenes, such as moody blue skies and dark clouds. It can also brighten red-colored skin tones. The two image control options that are included in the lens unit can help you create a variety of effects for monochromatic images. For a clean and bold look, choose the "Solid" option, while the "Grainy" option adds a strong grain effect that's reminiscent of traditional darkroom prints. The camera's exterior has been updated to reflect the imaging system's monochromatic approach. The body, ring cap, and shutter release button now have a matte black finish. To maintain a completely white appearance, the illumination on the power button has also been changed to white.
New 25.7MP BSI CMOS Sensor and GR ENGINE 7:
Featuring a new sensor and processor, the GR IV Monochrome sports a 25.7MP APS-C CMOS sensor with a back-illuminated design for cleaner image quality and reduced noise. This sensor pairs with the updated GR ENGINE 7 processor that helps to achieve a full stop better low-light performance along with a faster 0.6-sec startup time, quicker focusing performance, up to ISO 409600, and the same versatile 14-bit DNG and JPEG recording as its predecessor.
Faster and More Accurate Autofocus:
The new GR IV Monochrome features faster focusing. This is due to the new processing engine, which is designed to provide more responsive AF performance. In addition, the new lens and the reduced focus hunting time make it easier to shoot in low-light conditions. An autofocus system uses a precision and accuracy to detect the eye or face of the subject and focus on it. It then positions the LCD display to focus on it using an AF frame. When multiple faces are detected by the camera, it starts to differentiate the main subject from the others and informs the user on the focus frame at the center. The new Full Press Snap feature allows users to override the AF system by pressing the shutter button. It then automatically focuses the lens at a specified distance and allows users to take precise moments-type photos.
5-Axis Shake Reduction:
The new 5-axis stabilization system of the G4 Pro is ideal for low-light shooting. It can reduce the number of stops of camera shake by up to six. This new system is more effective at minimizing the appearance of movement in the photos when shooting handheld.
Image Control:
The ability to create custom looks with the help of the Image Control tool is a great way to enhance the quality of an image. It can be used to set various parameters such as contrast, sharpness, and grain to suit the desired effect. In addition, the tool can be used to customize the size and strength of the image.
Shooting Modes:
The GR IV Monochrome features an electronic shutter function that allows you to shoot at up to 1/16,000-sec in bright conditions. It also has a Program Auto Ex function that allows you to switch between exposure modes easily. The Snap Distance Priority AE (Sn) mode has been added to the device's exposure options. This mode focuses on the depth of the field of the scene and adjusts the parameters to get the best possible results. The sensor features an anti-aliasing filter-less design for enhanced resolution and sharpness. For certain situations, such as taking photos of high-frequency patterns and fabrics, the Shake Reduction feature can reduce the moiré effect. It can also simulate the effects of AA filters. The integrated multi-exposure mode can be used with a single exposure to create a compositing effect. The IV Monochrome has various metering options, such as multi-segment, center-weighted, and spot. It also has a Highlight-Weighted mode that focuses on keeping the highlights within the dynamic range. In addition to shooting stills, the device can record Full HD 1080 videos at 60p, 30fps, and 24p.
Redesigned 28mm f/2.8-Equivalent Lens:
The GR IV Monochrome is a versatile lens that is ideal for shooting with a variety of cameras. It features a 28mm-equivalent lens, which is ideal for everyday use, and it comes with a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture. Its overall weight and size help minimize the camera's overall size and minimize the risk of getting damaged. The new optical design of the lens significantly improves the quality of its images. It features a seven-element structure that's designed to help achieve high-speed focusing and better resolution. The dedicated macro mode is ideal for capturing subjects in a range of 2.4 to 4.7 inches. It also features a close-up focusing range that's ideal for working with people in this size range. Its built-in crop modes allow you to create a narrower field of view even without using a different lens.
Body Design and Handling:
The new GR IV Monochrome is a slimmer and more secure camera with a better grip. Its magnesium alloy construction makes it light and yet rigid. Its new DB-120 battery provides up to 250 shots per charge, which is more than enough for most cameras. The internal memory of the camera has been expanded to 53 GB, and the card slot has been modified to be more sleek. Its USB-C port allows users to transfer data and recharge the battery. The ADJ lever has also been changed to make it easier to use. The new 3.0" rear LCD monitor features an air gapless design that helps minimize reflections in outdoor conditions. It also comes with a built-in brightness setting that adjusts automatically based on the ambient light.
Wireless Connectivity and GR WORLD App:
A dedicated app for shooting with the GR-series cameras has been created to provide a simpler experience. It allows users to transfer photos from their device to their mobile phones and control their remote shutter release.
Optional Accessories:
The GF-2 External Flash can be used with top hot shoes. It features a sleek design and is compatible with the GR IV Monochrome body. Its built-in lithium-ion battery can be charged via USB-C. The GV-2 is an external optical viewfinder that mounts shoe. It features a field of view that's equivalent to the 28mm lens of a certain model. It also has 1:1 aspect ratio marks. To attach the optional GA-3 lens adapter, remove the GN-3 ring cap. This will allow you to use 49mm and the GW-4 Wide Conversion lens to get a wider field of view.
