PlaneWave L-600 Direct Drive Mount
Planewave L600 Series Direct Drive mounts combines versatility, simplicity and affordability by combining all the technology of Planewave observatory class telescopes into a compact stand-alone mount. In its Alt/Az configuration it is considerably more compact than its equatorial counterpart, allowing a larger telescope to fit in a smaller enclosure. Unlike traditional German Equatorial mounts, there are no meridian flips to deal with, and no large protruding counterweights to create a dangerous hazard in a public observatory. Alt/Az is more intuitive to use and no polar alignment is needed. For added flexibility, the L-Series mounts can be installed in either Alt/Az, or EQ mode with the optional wedge accessory.
The L-600 was designed with the Planewave CDK24 in mind, and can hold up to 300 lbs. With zero backlash and zero periodic error, virtually silent motion and slew speeds of up to 50 degrees per second the L-Series mounts are an ideal choice for permanent observatory installations. High resolution encoders on each axis provide precision positioning and tracking.
Planewave L-600 Mount Features:
- Capable of carrying up to 300 pounds (135kg)
- Base model is in Alt-Az configuration, but can be converted to EQ with the additional of an optional wedge
- Direct Drive motors for nearly silent, smooth and fast movement.
- Slew at up to 50 degrees per second
- High resolutoin encoders for precision positioning
- Zero backlash and zero periodic error
- Enclosed electronics and through mount cabling with easy to access panels to add your own cabling.

Direct Drive Motors & Encoders
Now we get into longer form content, whole paragraphs and sentences. For a camera these subsequent sections could Sensor, Cooling, Processing, Warranty, etc. For a telescope you could do Optical Design, Mount, Included Items (for high detail included items), Warranty. Drag and drop in any additional H2 headings and text blocks that you need to keep this going until your description is done. Let's keep Warranty as the last paragraph. A customer should be able to know where to go on any of our descriptions to find what they want. Consistency is key. If you want to imbed images, you can but please also include those in the product images as well. Do not forget your alt text, you can get to that by loading your image and then clicking on the gear icon when you hover over. Keep it short and to the point. If you need to or can internally link to our own site, please do where it makes sense.
High Speed Slewing
With the ability to move at 50 degrees per second, the Planewave L-600 can easily keep pace with fast moving objects like satellites and will minimize target acquisition times.
Dual Mounting Bracket & AZ Dovetail Balance System
Mount two optical tubes on a single fork arm with the L-600 dual mounting bracket. An optional dovetail clamp is required but with the ability to hold up to 300 pounds, the dual mounting option makes this a versatile mount. Pair a 17" CDK with a 14" Cassegrain for example, or configure one telescope for imaging and another for tracking and guiding.
An adjustable center of gravity balance plate ensures that your system will be perfectly balanced for optimal performance.
Through Mount Cabling
Good cable management can be the crux of an easy to maintain system. Understanding the importance of this, Planewave has run cabling through the fork arm with easy to access panels to allow users to run their imaging cables through the fork as well.
