It is an educational tool for student to quickly record spectra of stars and nebulae and focus on actual project rather than long observing hours.
It is also a scientifical tool to study faint objects (novae, variable stars, comets, asteroids, nebulae, galaxies, quasars...), to monitor group of stars, to analyse chemicaly planets in visible or near infra-red domain, etc...

The LISA is a low resolution, high luminosity spectrograph that is capable of studying faint objects, including variable stars, asteroids, comets, novae, nebulae, galaxies, and quasar. It also allows chemical analysis of the planets in near infrared.

This model of the LISA comes with a slit for studying objects in the NIR domain of 650 - 1000nm. The included slit has four positions: 15, 19, 23 & 35um. Additional slits are available optionally.

The Shelyak LISA front plate comes with a standard T-mount thread . Backfocus is 41 mm  measured from the top of the flat face of the instrument to the slit position.
