Strain wave gear technology provides a high degree of precision with zero backlash. When paired with harmonic gears the result is a mount that can provide a high load capacity with no errors and accurate tracking. The NYX-88 RA axis has down to 0.15 arc seconds of resolution and the reduction on the RA axis is 400:1. The DEC axis reduction is 300:1.

The NYX-88 is CNC machined from AL6061 aluminum alloy, often used in aircraft manufacturing and known for being both lightweight and durable. This allows the mount to be exceptionally lightweight. This mount will support everything from a small refractor and camera to larger optical tubes. The counterweight shaft is a commonly used M12 size allowing a variety of counterweight brands to be used.

The supplied power cable is a GX12 type for secure locking onto the mount, helping prevent any unplanned power interruptions. The USB type B special socket ensures a secure grip.   Both ports are located on a stationary part of the mount, so they will not move during slewing and tracking, simplifying cable management. Requiring only 12V power, the NYX-88 can be easily powered with most typical battery supplies.
