Moravian - C4-16000 with Gsense 4040 BSI Sensor
Moravian C4-16000 with Gsense 4040 BSI Sensor
Moravian C4-16000 Features
- Uses the Sony IMX252 sensor with a 3.2mp resolution.
- Pixel size of 3.45 x 3.45 μm.
- Image area of 7.12 x 5.33 mm.
- Supports 8 and 12 bit digitization which is often preferred for long exposure astrophotography.
- Designed to be operated and powered with an external PC or dedicated astro imaging control unit (such as EAGLE from PrimaLuceLab) with USB 3.0 (5 Gbps) or USB 2.0.
- Requires 12V DC to activate the Peltier cooling system for active sensor cooling, something not available in regular C1.
- 125 μs - pixel saturation limit exposure time can enable a wide range of astrophotography setups.
- Includes a small fan to lower temperature and minimize dark current noise, even if the regular Peltier cooling system isn't activated (though it is recommended for optimal cooling)
- Comes with M42 x 0.75 thread lens adapter with 18.5mm backfocus that can attach directly to a tilter adapter.
- Includes 6 pin ST-4 guider port.
- Camera housing dimensions are 78mm x 78mm x 80mm without adapter base.
- Compatible with Moravian External Filter Wheels.
- Camera weight of 0.68 kg.
Mechanical Shutter for Automatic Dark Frame Calibrations
The Moravian C4-16000 Camera is installed with a mechanical shutter rather making it ideal for automatic dark frame calibrations in settings where it is necessary such as observatories. In addition, the C4-16000 has thermoelectric cooling (powered with 12 V DC) which inhibits excess heat which can cause noise to show up in the frames, particularly in longer exposures.
- CMOS Chip Cooling: Thermoelectric (Peltier modules)
- Maximal cooling ΔT: ~30 °C below ambient (Standard cooling)
- Regulated cooling ΔT: 28 °C below ambient (Standard cooling)
- Regulation precision: 0.1 °C
- Hot side cooling: Air cooling (two fans)

Mechanical Details and Exposure Limits
- Internal mechanical shutter: Yes, blade shutter
- Shortest exposure time: 21 μs (electronic shutter)
- Longest exposure time: Limited by chip saturation only
- Head dimensions: 154 mm × 154 mm × 65 mm (standard cooling)
- Back focal distance: 33.5 mm (base of adjustable adapters)
- Standard cooling head weight: 1.6 kg (without filter wheel), 2.5 kg (with “M” external filter wheel), 2.8 kg (with “L” external filter wheel)

16.8mp Resolution with the GSENSE 4040 Sensor in 4096 x 4096 Pixel Array
With a 16.8mp resolution with the GSENSE 4040 sensor, the Moravian C4-16000 is excellent for both deep sky imaging with miraculous detail, particularly when using narrowband filters to bring out subtle differences in detail in deep sky objects that become apparent in photos.
Requires External PC for Power and Control
The Moravian C4-16000 camera requires an external PC for both power and to be controlled. It is compatible with 32 bit and 64 bit Windows systems as well as dedicated control units for astrophotography such as PrimaLuceLab EAGLE.
- Camera power supply: 12 V DC
- Camera power consumption: <8 W without cooling, 47 W maximum cooling
- Power plug: 5.5/2.5 mm, center +
- Adapter input voltage: 100-240 V AC/50-60 Hz
- Adapter output voltage: 12 V DC/5 A
- Adapter maximum power: 60 W
