HOBYM Observatory - Crux200MF Harmonic AZ/EQ Dual Gear Mount

Harmonic Mount Benefits

Harmonic mounts such as the HOBYM Crux200MF mount have several distinct advantages and selling points, particularly geared for the dedicated long exposure astrophotographers. With various advantages such as extremely low vibration, quiet noise, much more reliable and superior payload to weight ratio, better electronics and better overall performance, long exposure astrophotography becomes much more streamlined to ensure tracking is accurate with nigelible drift, error and backlash.

Optical Tube Weight and Size Constaints

The HOBYM Crux200MF can withstand payload of 30kg when using a 5kg counterweight, thus it can accomodate lightweight 6" refractors, 10" Ritchey Chretiens, and 10" Imaging Reflectors.

AZ/EQ Dual Mount Harmonic Design and Meridian Free Tracking

The HOBYM Crux200MF Harmonic Mount consists of dual altaz and equatorial modes, both having their respective advantages. Visual astronomers will find use in the Altaz mode while astrophotographers will likely prefer the equatorial mode with its significantly more stable tracking, particularly the longer exposures are.

The Meridian Free Mode funcitons much like a fork mount whereas there is no obstruction or halting when tracking through the meridian.

Two Harmonic Gears

The R.A. axis incorporates both a primary harmonic gear with an 80:1 ratio and a secondary harmonic gear with a 50:1 ratio, effectively minimizing any backlash. This setup is particularly crucial for long exposure photography, where even the slightest movement or backlash can significantly impact the quality of the image. With virtually zero backlash, the system becomes highly reliable and precise, especially when executing functions like Periodic Error Correction (PEC). This means that under optimal conditions, the gear configuration ensures stable and accurate tracking of celestial objects during prolonged exposures, resulting in sharper and clearer images without distortions or blurs caused by gear imperfections.

Stunning Periodic Error Correct (PEC) System

Credited to the no backlash RA axis of the Crux200MF, the Periodic Error Correction is of phenomenal accuracy to ensure images and frames are pinpoint without drift.

Stepper Motor Reduction of 2000:1 Ratio

To keep any drift or vibration nearly absent when obsering and imaging at higher magnification, HOBYM has implemented the Crux200MF with stepper motors that have a miraculous 2000:1 reduction ratio.

14,000 Object Celestial Database

The mount is euipped with the Titan TCS system, featuring a 14,000 celestial object database comprising of Messier, NGC, Caldwell and various other deep sky and star catalogs for the novice and experienced astronomers alike.
