It continuously monitors environmental conditions in real-time, ensuring your optics are heated just enough to prevent dew from forming.

Equipped with two dedicated ports, the Celestron Smart DewHeater and Controller 2X allows you to manage two dew heaters simultaneously. Use one port to maintain the temperature of your primary optical tube, while the other can heat a secondary tube, guide scope, eyepiece, or another accessory. An additional 12V DC output port is included, enabling you to power another device like your mount, all through one power source.

The controller integrates perfectly with Celestron’s Dew Heater Rings, which feature a built-in thermistor that measures the corrector lens temperature. You can also use third-party heater bands or straps by adding Celestron’s Thermistor(sold separately) for compatibility.

At the core of this controller is a powerful microprocessor that collects data from various sensors and adjusts your dew heaters automatically. The system monitors ambient temperature and humidity through its internal environmental sensor, as well as the temperature of the heaters using integrated thermistors.

The Celestron Smart DewHeater and Controller 2X can function independently, or you can connect it to your Celestron telescope’s hand control or a PC for more detailed control. It is compatible with NexStar+ or StarSense hand controls running the latest firmware, and it also works seamlessly with Celestron’s CPWI telescope control software, which is included with every Celestron mount.

The Celestron Smart DewHeater and Controller 2X operates on a 12V DC battery (such as the Celestron PowerTank Lithium Pro or PowerTank 17), with a maximum power output of 120W (10A at 12V DC). It features an additional 12V DC output port to power other 12V devices, like a mount, through a single power source. For added protection, resettable electronic fuses prevent damage if current draw exceeds safe levels.

Important Note: If you plan to run two dew heaters in humid conditions while also powering additional 12V DC devices, the controller may approach its power limit. In such cases, you will likely need a higher-capacity battery or multiple batteries to ensure continuous operation throughout the night.

The Celestron Smart DewHeater and Controller 2X comes in a heavy-duty metal housing, designed to withstand the rigors of outdoor use. Inside, an integrated cooling fan ensures the electronics stay cool. The bridge on top of the controller houses the status LEDs and environmental sensors, positioned to avoid heat interference from the other components. Unlike competing products, Celestron’s sensors do not require additional cables for accurate readings.

The status LEDs on the bridge provide important updates, including warnings when the power draw exceeds your power source’s capacity or when the battery charge is running low. You can dim the LEDs for better night vision during your observation sessions.

For mounting, the Celestron Smart DewHeater and Controller 2X can be attached to the CGE or CG-5 dovetail using the included clamps or mounted on a tripod leg using the provided strap.

For the best possible performance, we strongly recommend pairing the Celestron Smart DewHeater and Controller 2Xwith Celestron Dew Heater Rings. These rings fit securely on your Schmidt corrector lens and provide efficient dew prevention for year-round imaging and observing.

To further improve your setup, consider adding a dew shield. While not mandatory, a shield will reduce the amount of power the controller needs to maintain clear optics, improving overall efficiency and extending battery life.
