CELESTRON NexStar 8SE 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain Computerized Telescope
The largest model of the Celestron NexStar SE Telescope family, the 8" NexStar SE is perfect for planetary observing. For visual astronomers willing to take their hobby to the next level, this telescope is equipped with high-end optical coatings to improve light reflectivity within the mirrors. The StarBright XLT coatings boost up mirror light reflectivity up to 95%, around a 10% improvement from traditional aluminum coatings. Celestron's single arm fork mount creates an excellent and efficient slewing system especially in conjunction with the SkyAlign method. Most new astronomers may have a tough time (happens to all of us!) remembering the names of the stars, specifically when first going to a location not affected by light pollution. Celestron has fixed this problem! With the SkyAlign system, all the observer must do is align and center the scope on three bright stars and by entering the date, time and location into the NexStar controller, the computer can calculate what stars were selected and the observing session can begin. It is recommended that the optional SkySync GPS Accessory (not included) be used along with this alignment method. Once properly aligned, the NexStar hand controller has a database of 40,000 objects available to slew to! Messier, NGC, and IC objects are included as well as the planets.
The Celestron NexStar 8SE 8" computerized telescope has a focal ratio of f/10 which is very suitable for observing the planets and moon or most objects with a high surface brightness in a small field of view. Some of the details that can be observed with this aperture include the cloud bands of Jupiter, the Cassini's division in Saturn's rings as well as outstanding views of the Moon and its craters. Certain deep sky objects may be within reach as well. Globular clusters such as M13 (Hercules Cluster), Orion Nebula, and the Whirlpool Galaxy may be among a few options.
