RASA Performance within Reach

Astrophotographers looking for speed, precision, and convenience in a compact system will find the Celestron 6" RASA well suited for deep-sky imaging. Its f/2.2 design significantly reduces exposure times, making it easier to capture detailed images of faint objects without requiring prolonged tracking. Since the introduction of RASA technology in 2014, it has been widely used for space surveillance and satellite tracking by defense contractors, researchers, and government agencies.

The RASA 6 features a flat field that produces sharp stars across the entire image, similar to larger models in the series. It collects more light and delivers higher resolution than comparable refractors, revealing faint structures in galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters in less time. With professional-grade technology at an accessible price, it is an excellent option for those seeking a high-performance imaging system or a portable second astrograph.

The patented Rowe-Ackermann Schmidt optical design sets the Celestron 6" RASA apart by minimizing optical aberrations and maximizing image clarity. A Schmidt corrector and precision primary mirror work together to refine light paths, while a specialized three-element lens group made with rare-earth glass ensures sharp focus across the entire image. The included 2” clear filter is designed to maintain optimal f/2.2 performance when adding filters, preventing any additional glass from disrupting the light path.

Celestron's StarBright XLT coatings enhance light transmission and field illumination across all refractive and reflective surfaces. Compared to a Schmidt-Cassegrain in a Fastar-style configuration, the RASA optical system delivers improved performance and more even field illumination. Designed for sensors up to 22mm diagonal, it provides a wide 3.8° field of view while achieving sub-arcsecond resolution, making it a strong choice for capturing detailed deep-sky images.

The Celestron 6" RASA is designed for modern astroimagers, offering features that enhance usability and adaptability. An integrated filter drawer supports both 1.25” and 2” filters, providing flexibility for various imaging needs. The included 2” clear filter serves as an optical window, allowing filters to be added without introducing extra glass into the optical path, preserving performance at f/2.2.

A built-in 12V MagLev fan pulls air through mesh vents to quickly cool the system to ambient temperature while keeping internal components dust-free. The included M42 camera adapter ensures compatibility with a wide range of astronomical CMOS cameras. For optimal performance, Celestron recommends pairing the RASA 6 with the Focus Motor for precise electronic focusing, along with the 6” Aluminum Dew Shield or Dew Ring to prevent moisture buildup during extended imaging sessions. When not in use, a dedicated carrying bag provides protection and portability.

The Versatile Advanced VX Mount

The Celestron 6" RASA pairs seamlessly with the Advanced VX mount, a versatile GoTo German equatorial mount designed for stability and precision. With a 30 lb payload capacity, it provides a solid platform for imaging setups, even when equipped with accessories such as the StarSense Autoguider, dew prevention systems, or a focus motor.

The Advanced VX mount includes All-Star Polar Alignment and permanently programmable periodic error correction (PPEC), simplifying alignment and tracking. Its computerized GoTo functionality, controlled through the NexStar+ hand controller, allows for quick and intuitive object location and tracking. Together, the RASA 6 and Advanced VX create a portable imaging system capable of producing high-quality deep-sky images.

CPWI Software

Every advanced imaging system requires powerful software, and this kit includes Celestron PWI Telescope Control Software, developed in collaboration with PlaneWave Instruments. CPWI offers a graphical planetarium interface with PointXP advanced mount modeling, allowing you to add over 100 alignment points for precise accuracy.

It also integrates smoothly with ASCOM, enabling control of your Advanced VX mount through a variety of third-party applications. Additional features, such as the ability to save and reload alignment settings and automatically park the telescope, make it ideal for observatory setups.
