• The Celestron 11" EdgeHD OTA is an aplanatic Schmidt-Cassegrain design, simply meaning it uses mirrors and corrector plates. This results in a very slow focal ratio of f/10 and a focal length of 2800mm for the 11" optical tube.
• The tube includes a zero power corrector plate, spherical primary mirror, and a secondary mirror with field flattening lenses in the baffle tube. This results in somewhat of a hybrid between a reflector and a refractor.
• The StarBright XLT coatings, the flagship coatings by Celestron take the optics even a step further. By implementing special coatings on the optics, light transmission is improved significantly rendering better images and views.
• The EdgeHD has a flat field that provides pinpoint stars to the edge of the field of view.
• Mirror clutches are installed to secure the mirror in place during long exposure images to reduce image shift, a major setback in long exposure astrophotography.
• Cooling is very efficient with the vents in the rear of the scope using 50-mesh filters to remove hot air without letting dust in.
• Fastar compatibility by removing the secondary mirror and in place installing a third part lens accessory creates an f/2 focal ratio making it suitable for deep sky observation and fast exposure at wide field.
