ATIK - Apx60 Monochrome CMOS (IMX 455) Camera
The Atik Apx60 is built and configured with the Sony IMX 455 sensor, a robust 61.17 MP full-frame sensor that excels in wide-field astrophotography, delivering exceptional detail that outshines most CMOS cameras. It offers 65,536 shades of gray, features cooling systems capable of reaching -35°C, and boasts impressive sensor specifications, making it an essential tool for professional astrophotographers and those involved in scientific applications such as photometry and spectroscopy.
ATIK Apx60 Monochrome CMOS (IMX 455) Camera
The Atik Apx60 features the Sony IMX 455 sensor, a rocksolid 61.17 mp full frame sensor, an absolute desire for wide field astrophotography with astounding levels of detail, far surpassing most CMOS cameras on the market. With 65,536 grey levels available, cooling systems up to -35°C and excellent sensor metrics, it is a must have for expert astrophotographer who wants sharp detail as well as other scientific applications like photometry or spectroscopy.
Full Frame Sensor and Available Software Binning to Mimic CCD Advantages
The Sony IMX 455 is a full frame sensor with a pixel size of 3.76µm. One of the key benefits of CCD sensors that are typically not available in CMOS is binning which can result in faster readout speed and less signal to noise ratio. However, in the case of the Apx60, the noise is already typically a lot lower than a CCD (1.2 e- vs 6 e-) which means binning can take place at the software level, thus also increasing full well capacity by merging the values of the pixels being binned.

Pristine Sensor Design with No Amp Glow
Credited to high quality sensor circuity of the IMX 455, APX60 is free from amp glow, thus eliminating the extra step of removing them with calibration or dark frames which aren't a guarantee to provide desired outcomes. This is especially critical in longer exposures where even the most subtle artifical glows and noise can appear in the final results.

The IMX455 is a back-illuminated sensor, thus without the obstruction caused by the wiring on the sensor's layer, it has much better quantum efficiency, thus better for obtaining detail which is a major factor in low light photography like astroimaging where every pixel counts.
