Baader Planetarium AstroSolar Safety Film- 20x30cm, Visual Quality, ND = 5.0

Baader Planetarium's AstroSolar™ Safety Film offers unparalleled views of the Sun, showcasing fine solar details like penumbral detail, granulation, and faculae against a dark background. Unlike typical 'mylar' films or inexpensive glass filters, AstroSolar provides exceptional performance at a very low cost. Additionally, it comes in sizes suitable for producing full-aperture filters for large telescopes, making it accessible to all enthusiasts. By following tips for a simple DIY filter mount, users can easily construct a high-quality, low-cost white light solar filter for any telescope.

For those seeking to further enhance stability and sharpness of solar images, the Baader Solar Continuum Filter can be used in combination with AstroSolar. This additional filter particularly enhances views of granulation and faculae, pleasing users of achromatic refractors.

What sets AstroSolar apart is its ability to present the Sun in its true color - neutral white with a slight bluish tinge. This is unlike other filters that produce blurry or tinted solar images, cutting part of the spectrum and making it difficult to see features like faculae regions, especially with an orange Sun. Due to its neutral color balance, AstroSolar allows for the use of various color filters, enabling observers to concentrate on specific spectral passbands and investigate different layers within the solar "atmosphere".

Safe Solar Observing

This specialized foil is designed specifically for safe solar observing when used with optical instruments such as telescopes, binoculars, or cameras. Baader Planetarium's AstroSolar® Safety Film 5.0 ensures protection for your eyes and equipment while providing remarkable views of the Sun's surface features.

It is important to note that AstroSolar® Safety Film 5.0 is not intended for direct naked eye solar observation or for creating solar viewers.   When observing the Sun, it's crucial to prioritize safety to prevent eye damage. Always use certified solar viewing equipment and follow recommended guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable solar observing experience.
