Vixen VC200L 200mm Catadioptrical Reflector with Sphinx SXW Mount
VC200L Optical Tube
The VC 200L Reflector is an 8" f/9.0 highly corrected, highly specialized telescope for astro imaging. Vixen's unique catadioptric design features a high precision sixth order aspherical primary mirror, a convex secondary mirror and triplet corrector lens. VISAC is an abbreviation for Vixen's Six-Order Aspherical Cassegrain. The primary mirror is held by a retaining ring, instead of hooks, to decrease flare and enhance contrast.
The VISAC System provides high-definition star images to the edge of a wide viewing field and offers exceptionally outstanding performance in astrophotography. Even at the edge of the 35mm film format (larger CCD chips) stars are sharp (smaller than 15 micrometers). This is smaller than the resolution of fine quality CCD cameras, which means that the telescope does not limit the image quality. With its elaborate aspherical optical design, it achieves excellent image correction throughout the large illuminated field. (42mm diameter fully illuminated) Astronomy Technology Review states: "The VC200L focuser is one of the smoothest I've ever tested...overall the visual image quality of the VC200L was quite impressive...and is a step up from the typical Schmidt-Cassegrain". Telescopes.net will be happy to inspect and test the item before shipping at a fee.
The VISAC (Vixen's Sixth Order Aspherical Catadioptric) design achieves a photographic field virtually free of aberration. As coma spherical and curvature of field are perfectly corrected, images captured are stunningly sharped. Star images are less than 15 microns across to the very edge of the 42mm image circle. It is a telescope truly designed for both visual observation and astrophotography.
A comparison that shows extremely minute chromatic aberration, in very small five hundredth mm units, clearly shows that the aberration in the VISAC is far less than on the flourite refractor, which itself provides exceptional color correction.
Vixen's Sphinx SXW Equatorial Mount features leading edge innovations developed through decades of experience in building German Equatorial Mounts. The Vixen SPHINX SXW mount and STAR BOOK hand controller are groundbreaking advancements in high speed, portable GoTo mount technology.
- Easy Secure setup: The Sphinx SXW Equatorial Mount sets up in minutes. One bolt secures it to the tripod. Beginners and seasoned hobbyists will benefit from the portability of the mount, the easy to use controller, the ability to download future upgrades directly to the controller and the versatility of placing a variety of optical tubes on this equatorial mount with Vixen's universal dove tail plate.
- High Speed Precise GoTo Slewing: The short profile declination head and internal motors greatly improve balance and motion around the RA Axis. This innovative, lightweight design guarantees precise motor control.
- Unique Motor Layout: The internal placement of the the RA and DEC motors allow the motors to act as a built in counterweight. Small telescopes require no additional counterweights.
- Retractable Counterweight Shaft: Constructed of corrosion resistant stainless steel, it retracts into the Sphinx mount body for easy storage.
It is now possible to explore the beauty of the night sky with greater ease and stability. The SPHINX equatorial mount and STARBOOK controller have been intelligently engineered for high-speed automatic location of celestial objects.
The SPHINX comes standard with built in motors and the world's first star chart go-to controller, STARBOOK, with a large full color LCD display. The Sphinx’s design is exceptional and the exterior styling is equally attractive. The STARBOOK features a display on the large color screen and are navigated with simple buttons on the controller. The STARBOOK is easy to use and makes the SPHINX available to a wide range of ages and experience levels. The STARBOOK incorporates a large astronomical database with 22,725 celestial objects. A LAN Port within the controller allows for computer control and network connectivity.
Zoom-In/Out buttons for the color star chart display also control the motor speed. As you zoom in closer to an object on the display screen, the motor speed automatically becomes finer and as you zoom out the motor speed increases to cover larger distances. Features and menu options are displayed on the large color screen and are easily navigated with simple buttons on the controller. The PEC Function corrects periodic error correction for precision tracking needed for astrophotography. The STAR BOOK is amazingly easy to use and makes the SPHINX available to a wide range of ages and experience levels.
