Vixen - Giant 12x80 ARK Waterproof BCF Binoculars
For image quality and precise optics, Vixen's Giant ARK series of large nitrogen purged, waterproof binoculars are the answer. The same care that goes into making our high-end telescopes is evident in our large aperture binoculars. The Vixen ARK Series binoculars are used for viewing the night sky or for long distance terrestrial viewing.
The 12x80 model (Item #1455) with a near 7mm exit pupil and 4.5 degree field of view is best suited for astronomical use.
All ARK Binoculars can be either hand held, or for the most stable viewing platform, mounted on Porta II mount (shown here) or a photographic tripod (with the optional tripod adapter).
The 80mm diameter lenses of these units allow the observer to take in such celestial sights as the Orion or Lagoon Nebula and other celestial wonders. The Milky Way, the Moon and bright comets will jump out at you with this combined aperture and power.
The optics on the Vixen ARK series binoculars are multicoated and the prisms are made from BaK4 glass. This combination allows for the greatest transfer of light through the optics. Other benefits include rugged optical housings, fine focusing and a right eye dioptor to allow for left/right eyesight differences.
- The 18mm of eye relief in the Vixen 12x80 Giant ARK Binoculars is a definite advantage for all observers, but especially those wearing glasses. The maximum distance the eye pupil can be from the eyepiece lens to acquire a full field of view refers to the eye relief. The larger the number the better and 18mm is considered high by most binocular standards.
- 80mm of objective lens sizes is huge for astronomical purposes. While the magnification is important depending on what you want to view, objective lens sizes are what will determine how much light can be accommodated. Astronomical viewing is in very low light conditions, so every bit counts. With an exceptional objective lens size, deep sky objects, planets, and like stated before, bright patches of the Milky Way will look phenomenal through these Vixen binoculars.
- These binoculars feature BaK-4 glass which has a high refractive index to ensure that there is excellent light transmission. In addition, Vixen has also added multi-coated optics on the roof prisms to prevent unwanted reflections which could disrupt image clarity.
- These binoculars are nitrogen purged, which makes them waterproof. Kiss moisture goodbye!
