Focal Reducers

This Focal Reducer takes the standard 1800mm(f/9) focal length down to 1278mm (f/6.4). Increasing the field of view and decreasing the exposure time to dramatically increase your density or signal to noise ration.

Used for both visual and photographic purposes, this reducer yields 87% of the instruments original focal length giving a wider view or image of the sky. For imaging an optional T-ring for your specific camera would be required.

Reduces Focal length by 0.62x. A Direct Wide Photo Adapter 60 and T-Ring are needed to mount it to your camera.

Vixen Focal Reducer AX103S 0.7X 37228 is an accessory made for the Vixen AX103S APO Max Refractor Telescope. This accessory lens reduces the focal length of your telescope by 0.7x (825mm to 578mm (f/5.6).

This threads into a C Mount thread found on many items, including many modern video and digital cameras. By using this reducer you can image more of the sky into one photo, this reduces the focal length to 60% of your instruments normal length. You may also need optional #3763 T-C ring to mount this to a telescope.

Takahashi has a 645 reducer for the FSQ-106ED and CCA-250. This unit was designedin response to the use of larger chip CCD cameras. The reducer produces a 60mmø image circle that is70% illuminated

This flattener from Takahashi is compatible with FC-76 and FS-78 optical tubes. This can help aid in astrophotography, specifically in deep sky because it reduces the focal ratio. When the dedicated flattener is used it changed the focal ratio to f/7.8 at 594mm when used with the FC-76S or D models. This produces a ø40mm flat field image circle. The dedicated reducer changes the focal length to 417mm and the f-stop to f/5.5. The image circle is ø36mm.

Some of the most picturesque celestial objects are too large to fit in the field of view of an imaging refractor and camera. What’s more, most objects in deep space are very faint and therefore challenging to image without taking very long exposures, increasing the potential for error. Our new Orion 0.8x Focal Reducer for Refractors addresses these obstacles by increasing your refractor telescope’s field of view while reducing the effective focal length by a factor of 0.8x, thereby providing a shorter, more optically “fast” focal ratio to increase astrophotography efficiency.

When attached to a telescope the f0.5 focal reducer will typically reduce exposure times to near a quarter when imaging extended objects like galaxies, nebulae and the Moon.
