Vixen - VMC110L Modified Cassegrain Telescope with Porta II Mount
One of the best multi purpose Grab and Go Reflector Telescopes. This is a compact optical tube with features found on higher end telescopes. Suitable for viewing the night sky or birds in far off trees. The Vixen VMC110L Reflector, is a 110 mm (4.33 inch) aperture modified Cassegrain f/9.4 optical tube assembly.
The VMC110L includes a built in slide mirror. Install 2 different eyepieces and change views easily. Or, attach your camera to one and an eyepiece to the other and capture images with ease.
With no corrector plate, the VMC110L features a small corrector lens ahead of the secondary mirror. The curved mirror braces reduce the effect of light diffraction.
The Porta II Alt Az Mount gives great performance when viewing objects at high magnification, the damping and vibration being significantly reduced as compared to other lesser quality telescope mounts.
- Compact optical tube with VMC optical system having a meniscus in front of a secondary mirror
- Curved secondary mirror braces help to cut down diffraction
- Buit-in flip mirror allows installation of two different power eyepieces or for astro photography
Porta II Mount
For so many years the beginning astronomer was forced to buy a mount that was unstable and almost useless when viewing at high power. More often than not, the frustration of using an unstable mount resulted in the telescope only being used for one night and being left in a closet to collect dust. The Porta mount changed all that. It is one of Vixen's proudest designs. The combination of smooth movement, rigid design and stable platform makes your first use a pleasure and will bring you back to view more and more of the night sky. The Universe Today says "The Porta Mount II is quality through and through, it's not going to just fall apart on you and it would be oh-so-easy to adapt any number of other scopes right to it just as easily as the R130Sf went into place." The Porta II is a solid altazimuth mount with a 20lb payload capacity and features Slow Motion Flexible Handles to minimize vibrations and keep your view sharp. This is very useful in searching and tracking celestial objects. The Sky at Night says: "When moving the telescope around the sky with this mount, we found any vibrations quickly dampened down. The whole system was very stable, even when the tripod was at its maximum extended height". The mount head is easily removed to allow for a switch to a heavier tripod. In addition, this is a great mount for terrestrial viewing. With no locks or clutches, our gear drives make it a simple matter to precisely track a planet or a ship on the horizon by turning the elevation and/or azimuth control handles. The Porta II Mount features slow motion control of both axes, solid central bolt for easy tripod change, flex handles and accessory tray.
