At last, you can now remotely or automatically observe peacefully thanks to Sentinel system. Designed with Cyril Cavadore, Sentinel is an astronomical weather station which monitor the sky and protect your equipment when weather deteriorates.
measures clouds in the sky
measures the sky brightness (sky background magnitude)
detects rain or snow
measures wind direction and strength
measures ambiant temperature
measures humidity level
records those data in its internal memory
Main Sentinel module is a box and a wind sensor that you fix outside, close to your observatory. A 25m cable link it to an interface box powered by 12V, connected to your PC by serial port, with a relay (1A, 250V) to trigger an alarm or an urgency close system such as Dome Tracker.
In case of rain, snow or frost, Sentinel heat itself so you can benefit from clear nights even if there is snow on the ground.
We have taken a great care to manufacture Sentinel to high standard so it can resist bad weather conditions; it's very robust (metalic casing).
An autonomous software (MS Windows) show you all the sensors data and plot them in graph that you can transfer on your FTP web site automatically. You can export data in CVS format for importing in other software. Text and binary data files are created continuously.
The software can also setup your Sentinel:
observatory opening maximum levels
observatory closure minimum levels
record frequency (with a record every 10 minutes, you can leave your Sentinel more than 50 days without a PC connection)
FTP link to automatically transfer graphs on your web site
Sentinel firmware can also be updated through the RS232 interface.
