Kenko's Auto Extension Tube set for Sony E-mount lenses is designed for use with mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras and includes one 10mm tube and one 16mm tube. These Kenko tubes can be used singly or in conjunction with one another in order to obtain the required magnification.
Extension tubes are hollow tubes free of optics engineered to extend the capacity of lenses beyond their minimum focusing range. This way greater magnification is achieved. The tubes are placed between the camera body and the lens. They are especially conducive to creating macro capability in non-macro lenses, although they provide magnification for all camera tasks.
Lens magnification is increased by the extension tubes by dividing the length of the tube by the focal length of the lens. Thus, adding a 25mm tube to a 50mm lens results in a gain of 0.5x magnification. Consequently, if the lens's original magnification was 0.15X, the new magnification will be 0.15X+0.5X=0.65X.
Kenko's Auto Focus extension incorporates circuitry and mechanical coupling, transparently maintaining auto focus and TTL auto exposure capabilities in concert with your AF lens.
Please be aware that
A. When using extension tubes the lens will no longer focus to infinity. The focusing range will be limited to a very close focusing distance.
B. There is light fall off when using any extension tube, sometimes the equivalent of 3 f-stops of light is lost when using multiple extension tubes together. This light lost can affect the camera's ability to auto focus. As a consequence of this, manual focusing is recommended should the lens begin to "hunt" (not lock onto the subject).
