CELESTRON - CGEM 1100 EdgeHD 11" Computerized Telescope (11082)
The days of ordinary telescopes are almost gone; the age of computerized telescopes has arrived and Celestron brings a great new product into the market for the utmost pleasure of astronomers and researchers. This is another addition to the CGEM series called the Celestron CGEM 1100. It boasts of an amazing set of specifications for the delight of all the astronomers and people who have such great passion for star gazing. The Celestron CGEM 1100 has incredible features that include 11” EdgeHD optics, Celestron’s premium StarBright XLT optical design, and 9 x 50 finderscope aimed to find the planetary objects with ease and accuracy. It also consists of a sturdy steel tripod with accessory tray for setting the telescope. In order to observe the planetary objects that are high up in the sky it contains a star diagonal that provides the ease of a comfortable viewing position. Besides all those things, this product of the CGEM series has a list of amazing HD features for the benefit of the observer. The new aplanatic Schmidt telescope design helps to produce aberration free images across a wide field of view. With an optical tube assembly that weighs only 28 lbs. The EdgeHD optical design produces an extremely flat focal plane precise enough to match the strict tolerances of the largest commercial CCD detectors, allowing all the stars to be in tight focus to the very edge of the chip and the field of view. The EdgeHD optics not only gives diffraction limited stars in the center of the view but also across the entire field of view. This newly designed optics provides the maximum performance. It consists of mirror tension locks that reduce the image shift by keeping the primary mirror locked in its position. The tube vents provide the cooling by letting the heat out from behind the primary mirror. The Celestron CGEM 1100 contains EdgeHD optical tubes that are equipped with a secondary mirror that is removable for fast f/2 CCD imaging. The imaging in the FASTAR configuration allows for exposure times that are 25 times faster than at f/10 and gives a five times wider field of view.
The CGEM mount of this product has a bold and attractive appearance with a capability of carrying Celestron’s higher end SCT optical tubes securely and vibration free making it ideal for imaging as well as visual observance. This HD telescope consists of a wide variety of computerized mount features. It has a proven NexStar computer control technology with a database of 40,000 objects with over 100 user definable objects and complete information on over 200 objects. The CGEM series contains a great polar alignment procedure called All-Star. All-star allows the user to choose any bright star for polar alignment with the assistance of the software to precisely align the mount with the north celestial pole. Another interesting feature of this product is the Permanent Periodic Error Correction (PEC) which allows the observer to eliminate the periodic tracking errors while the mount retains the PEC recordings. It consists of software for mount calibration, database filter limits, hibernate and five alignment procedures. It has hand control software that is flash upgradeable and motor control units for downloading product updates from the internet. The solar system alignment method allows the user to align the telescope in order to view the planetary objects even at the day time. The custom rate 9 feature allows the user to set the maximum slew rate and its Meridian preference allows the observer to approach the planetary object from the side of the Meridian for maximum tracking and imaging time. The Tandem feature allows the user to star align the telescope even when positioned for tandem scope use.
The redesigned electronics deliver constantly regulated power to the motors which make them capable of driving the telescope even when it is not perfectly balanced. The drive motors are DC Servo motors with integrated optical encoders offering smooth and quiet operation. The motor armatures are skewed to minimize cogging which is required for low speed tracking. Other features include a six-pin RJ-12 modular jack, ST-4 compatible guide port, auto guide port and auxiliary ports for astrophotography, RS-232 communication port, double-line 16 character liquid crystal display hand control with backlit LED buttons for easy operation of goto features and GPS compatible with optional SkySync GPS accessory. It has all this along with NexRemote telescope control software so that you can control your telescope through your computer easily.
The CGEM mount has a fresh, attractive, bold appearance and is capable of carrying Celestron’s higher-end SCT optical tubes (up to 11") securely and vibration free, which is ideal for both imaging and visual observing. Capable of holding over 40 lbs of payload and slewing at 5° per second, you will be able to instantly point to any of the celestial objects in the database.
Ergonomic Design - CGEM was designed to be ergonomically friendly with large Altitude and Azimuth adjustment knobs for quick and easy polar alignment adjustment. The internal RA and DEC motor wiring provides a clean look and an easy and trouble free set up.
Innovation - The CGEM series has a new innovative Polar alignment procedure called All-Star™ (patent pending). All-Star allows users to choose any bright star, while the software calculates and assists with polar alignment. Another great feature of the CGEM sure to please astroimagers, is the Permanent Periodic Error Correction (PEC) which will allow users to train out the worm gears periodic errors, while the mount retains the PEC recordings.
Performance - For objects near the Meridian (imaginary line passing from North to South), the CGEM will track well past the Meridian for uninterrupted imaging through the most ideal part of the sky. The CGEM mount has a robust database with over 40,000 objects, 100 user defined programmable objects and enhanced information on over 200 objects.
