Compatible with the Celestron 8 SE Telescope, this dew shield by AstroZap secures your telescope's optics from dew. Built with ABS plastic with an outer black coating exterior, the AstroZap Dew Shield is capable of absorbing both moisture and light. For extra durability, the dew shield has velcro pre-sewn in place.
The heater strip draws only 0.50 amps at full power (although power consumption at normal operating levels will generally be considerably less, particularly with the heat-conserving properties of the dew shield itself). It has a permanently attached 6? power cord terminated by a male RCA plug for connection to an optional (but required) heater control unit.
Most previous older dew shields only prolonged the effect of dew formation. However, with a minimal addition of heat even in drier climates, dew formation is guaranteed not to be a burden on your optics. The heat is generated through thick film heater at 12 volts with a 60% surface area emitting heat. Therefore, instead of heat distributed unevenly raising temperature considerably, heat is evenly distributed for a reasonable temperature and prevention of burnouts with wire resistance. In addition, no heat wave disturbances will be caused.
Astrozap's Flexi-Heat Dew Shields come with a six foot phono-plug cable and are compatible with Thosand Oaks, Kendrick and Dew Buster controllers. Optional cigarette lighter adapters are available for use without controllers. Being compatible with a wide diverse of products, the AstroZap won't restrict you from using your optics any differently than before.
The Astrozap Flexi-Heat Dew Shields are made from durable yet light weight ABS plastic and lined with black felt to help increase contrast. A 2-inch sewn neoprene rubber Mega Grip material wraps snugly around the telescope optical tube assembly, keeping the dew shield in place, and eliminating any chance of dew formation!
