Vixen - ED115S 115mm ED Apochromatic Refractor Telescope Package with Sphinx-D Mount
The Scope: The newly designed high definition ED lens on Vixen's ED115S Refractor gives excellent optical performance with its Extra Low Dispersion (ED) glass. Chromatic aberration is virtually eliminated. The Sky at Night Magazine states: "Vixen's optics were excellent. The scope corrected false colours almost perfectly when in focus...Pointing the scope at the stars showed the optics to be pretty much perfectly corrected"*. The new ED lenses feature brighter images from the shorter f/7.7 focal ratio to capture crisp, pinpoint star images for your enjoyment. The ED115S Refractor's lenses are made with environmently friendly technologies, free of hazardous lead that helps to support a cleaner global environment.

The Mount: While the outsides might look similar to the standard Sphinx Mount, the changes that have been made are huge! Incorporating one piece hardened steel RA and DEC shafts with needle bearings throughout, the new Sphinx D can handle a load capacity up to 50 lbs. The Sphinx D comes complete with PEC, backlash compensation, and the incredibly accurate SX Polar Finder Scope.The innovative STAR BOOK hand controller offers astronomical navigation with a large full-color LCD screen! The color screen is a detailed star chart that acts as a navigational and GOTO guide for the mount. Its 4.7" Color LCD Display gives an exact position against its scrolling star chart. The database contains over 22,000 objects and others can be added. Zoom-In/Out buttons for the color star chart display also control the motor speed. As you zoom in closer to an object on the display screen, the motor speed automatically becomes finer and as you zoom out the motor speed increases to cover larger distances.

The new ED115S lenses are made with environment-friendly technologies, free of hazardous lead that helps to support a cleaner global environment.
The optical tube comes equipped with a metal carry handle for easy one-hand carrying. The new lenses focus the full visible spectrum of visible light to a critical point much more accurately than past ED product. The ED115S lenses are almost free of chromatic aberration in all colors and are critically sharp edge to edge. The astro-photographer will be especially pleased with the high contrast images through this telescope.
