CELESTRON - CGEM DX Equatorial Mount and 11" EDGEHD Computerized Telescope • 11002

This mighty astronomical combination of the CGEM DX Computerized Equatorial mount with an 11" EdgeHD Schmidt-Cassegrain optical tube assembly (OTA) makes for an amateur astronomer's dream. In a dark sky, a computerized GoTo mount is a luxury that many of us did not have when we began our passion for the incredible world of Astronomy. and Astro-Imaging in particular.  The CGEM DX is a definite state of the art German equatorial mount.  New features and adjustments that Celestron has implemented in this mount range from tracking performance and auto slewing, a definite win for astro-imagers, to a payload capacity of 50 pounds! But there's even more.  Slewing performance is vastly improved, at 5° per second, meaning the observer can increase the time span and number of objects they can view in a given night. Equatorial mounts such as the Celestron CGEM DX are usually ranked at or near the top for astrophotography performance due to their rock solid stability making them a preferred instrument for astro-imaging and viewing.  And this mount doesn't need to be re-aligned every night due to its "Hibernate Function".  Aligning can be tricky and sometimes frustrating, but absolutely necessary for enjoyable evenings with your equipment.  Celestron has made sure the CGEM DX Equatorial Mount will be capable of accurate yet easy alignment. The mount is easily adjustable with its alt/az knobs to polar align. Aligning the telescope itself is actually very simple with Celestron's AllStar method. All the observer has to do is slew the telescope to two stars (avoid Polaris or anything close to the NCP/SCP since they're not good alignment reference points), then let the software do the calculating.   The hand controller will prompt the user to slew to any bright star to analyze its accuracy before their observing session. The user will then know if they need to adjust their altitude and/or azimuth to align with the celestial pole. The Celestron CGEM DX Mount's NexStar hand controller has a database of 40,000 celestial objects as well as information on over 200 other objects of interest to beggining and experienced astronomers alike.  Pretty darned simple.

Every astronomer knows a good mount is only half the equation to a satisfying observing experience, the optics the other. The 11" OTA that comes in this package features Celestron's own EdgeHD optics, a simple evolution from the traditional Schmidt-Cassegrain design to improve the definition of objects. With an f/10 focal ratio, this OTA is magnificent for planetary and terrestrial observation.  With the impressively large database, the observer can slew to all the Messier and NGC, IC, and Caldwell objects.

  • New aplanatic Schmidt telescope design produces aberration-free images across a wide field of view
  • Mirror tension locks hold the primary mirror in place and reduce image shift
  • Cooling vents allow hot air to be released from behind the primary mirror
  • Fastar compatible for fast f/2 imaging
