Narrowband (NB) filters  enhance contrast of emission objects by
accepting only a narrow range of wavelengths around the emission
lines of hydrogen (H-a, 656 nm), oxygen (OIII, 501 nm), sulfur (SII,
672nm) and others.

The NIR region remains largely unexplored by amateur imagers. Perhaps
this is due to the impression that the Si CCD camera is not
sufficiently sensitive in the NIR.  Perhaps it is not clear what can
be imaged in the NIR.  Narrowband imaging has only recently become
popular, allowing imagers to take images from backyard equipment like
the Hubble Space Telescope's "Pillars of Creation" (Messier 16).  NIR
imaging may follow this recent narrowband evolution and become
another tool in the imager's toolkit.  This image is of Maffei 2, a
galaxy in the plane of the Milky Way that is obscurred by dust and
hence, very faint.  This image was made entirely in the NIR with no
visible light!

The Astronomik CLS is our inexpensive solution for the visual
deep-sky observation, b&w photography and CCD observation. The
Astronomik CLS filter is the right filter to gain the contrast of
nearly all objects under light-polluted skies with all sizes of
telescopes. Due to the design of the transmission curve the filter
reduces the sky background and gas nebulae planetary nebulae as well
as open clusters, globular clusters and galaxies are seen better. The
Astronomik CLS blocks the emission of Hg and Na streetlights as well
as all Skyglow-lines . All major emission lines from deep-sky objects
are passed without suppression. As you can see from the chart below
the most important part of the eye's night-sensitive region is passed
with maximum transmission. 

The transmission curves of the Astronomik RGB filters are optimized
for the CCD-astronomy: With these filter-set, we finally can offer
filters that make color proof pictures of all objects possible.
Continuum radiators like stars and galaxies as well as objects that
shine only in single lines (e.g. planetary nebulae), are reproduced
in their true colors. Because of the design of the band pass of the
filters, the color sensitivity of the human eye is optimal
reproduced. You get CCD- pictures, that show the object optimal in
his colors, just as if you would see it, if your eye would be
sensitive enough. 

These new filters serve particularly the needs of the digital
photographer imaging the solar system with electronic cameras or
Webcams (with IR-block filter removed) at long-focus telescopes.

The SolarMax 40 was designed specifically for use on short fast
refractors under 1000mm focal length. Though small in size the 40mm
filter is large enough to resolve fine detail in surface structure
and on the Sun's limb. The SolarMax 40 will provide full disk H-Alpha
views when matched with the appropriate Blocking Filter (see
"FILTERS" for BF chart) on a suitable refractor.

The Blocking Filter is the second element in any Coronado H-Alpha
system, it is just as crucial to your safety and the system's
performance as the front element. Use the following guidelines for
selecting which Blocking Filter you need based on the focal length of
the telescope being used. If you are switching to a longer focal
length telescope your SolarMax system you can purchase blocking
filters separately.

The SolarMax 60 can be used to adapt most telescopes under 3000mm to
H-Alpha observing. Our mid-sized filter, SolarMax 60, provides
greater resolution and opportunities for resolving detail at higher
magnification than the SolarMax 40. By matching the SolarMax 60 with
the appropriate Blocking Filter (see "FILTERS" for BF chart) and
adaptor plate you can easily adapt most telescopes to H-Alpha
viewing.

Like the smaller 60mm filter the SolarMax 90 can be used on almost
any telescope design under 3000mm focal length. However, the larger
90mm aperture increases resolution and allows for the user to view
individual sections of solar activity at high magnification and when
viewing at full disk the user gets the impression of curvature on the
surface. The extra resolution will provide some stunning views; you
haven't seen the sun until you have looked 'down' through a filament
onto an active region. The SolarMax 90 provides consistent and
breathtaking H-Alpha views.
