Speeds Cool-Down of Large Reflector Mirrors
Speed up the cooling of your big reflectors optics to ambient temperature with this small, quiet fan. It attaches to pretapped
and threaded holes in the mirror cells of Orion SkyQuest XT8 and XT10 Dobsonians, Orion Atlas 8 and Atlas 10 reflectors, and the
Orion SkyView Pro 8 reflector. Mounting screws are supplied. Runs on 12 volts DC power supplied by the included battery pack,
which uses eight D-cell batteries (not included).
You can run the fan prior to observing, then turn it off, or you can even keep it running while observing; there is no noticeable
vibration. Battery life is about 13-14 hours of continuous operation. Fan is also compatible with rechargeable 12-volt field
battery power packs.
Using the Cooling Fan
The cooling fan should be turned on as soon as the telescope is brought outdoors before observing. It should run for
approximately 15-30 minutes to properly cool down the telescope. During observing, the fan should be turned off. This is because
even though it runs free from vibration, the air currents it generates in the optical tube will degrade image quality. Once the
mirror has cooled to the outdoor ambient temperature, the fan will not be needed again until your next observing session.
