With SCTs
This system is designed for an SCT that uses a 1.25" star diagonal or a 2" diagonal with 1.25" adapter. The patent pending Power
x Switch allows any typical F/10 Meade® and Celesctron® SCT to operate at two instant magnifications though some focuser knob
adjustment is necessary. With the Power x Switch Arm "IN", the magnification will be .66X and with the Power x Switch Arm "OUT",
the magnification will be approximately 1.15X (this added magnification is due to the interaction of the secondary mirror and the
primary mirror in an SCT).
Also included is a thread-on 1.25" 2X Multiplier that attaches to the binoviewer 1.25" nosepiece via matching threads. It is
used with the Power x Switch Arm in the OUT position and allows a third SCT Magnification of 2X (F/20) to occur.
With Refractors
This Package also operates with any Refractor using a 1.25" star diagonal with telescope-side filter threads. The 1.25" 2X
Multiplier Cell must be threaded into the 1.25" filter threads located on the telescope end of the star diagonal. Then the
binoviewer with the Power x Switch is loaded into the eyepiece-side of the star diagonal. The refractor will now operate at a low
and higher magnification. The Power x Switch Arm is in the "IN" position for lower power, "OUT" position for higher power.
Maks, Classical Cassegrains, Mewlons, Tec Maks
With any telescope that uses a star diagonal but cannot provide the back focus necessary for the binoviewer to reach focus, the
system is essentially used in the same way as it is with a refractor. Scopes like Takahashi Mewlons®, TEC Maksutovs®,Classical
Cassagrains, and Tal Klestovs require the system to be used as if these scopes were Refractors. Just follow the refractor
instructions and remember that the 1.25" Multiplier Cell must be installed in the star diagonal at all times.
When using telescopes like Questars®, Meade ETX90 and 125s®, Meade Maksutovs, Orion® Maks, Intes Micros® and some others, the
Multiplier Cell should not be installed in the diagonal. Focal reduction is possible using the Power x Switch in these telescopes
and due to the long focal length and small relative aperture inherent to many of these Mak telescopes, reduction is very
desirable. Our Patent Pending Power x Switch contains the Star*Sweeper" which creates this focal reduction and taking advantage of
this feature will no doubt prove attractive to you. With the Power x Switch Arm in the "OUT" position, normal magnifications will
result and by adding the 1.25" Multiplier Cell to the binoviewer nosepiece and keeping the Power x Switch Arm in the "OUT"
position, 2X magnification will result. These magnification factors are in comparison to magnification using the same eyepiece as
a single the telescope with no binoviewer.
With Newtonians
If a Newtonian telescope is added and this Standard SCT Power x Switch Package is already owned, an additional middle spacer tube
may be purchased that will allow the Newtonian to be used. This item called the 1.25" Newtonian Spacer Tube (also know as the
1.25" Part C). It threads to the 1.25" nosepiece currently attached to the binoviewer and then the 1.25" Multiplier Cell is
threaded to opposite end of this spacer tube. The Power x Switch will then function and a Newtonian will reach focus at both low
and high magnifications. Use the link at the top of this page to view the Manual.
