Celestron - Eyepieces
Axiom Series Eyepieces
These are Celestron’s top-of-the-line eyepieces. As an extension of the
popular Ultima line, the Axiom’s offer a wider field of view in both 1.25”
and 2” barrel sizes. All Axiom oculars feature a 7-element design, to give
you tack sharp star images across its extra wide, 70° apparent field of
view*. All are fully multicoated with extra large pop-up eyecups to block
unwanted stray light. Like the Ultima series, the Axiom optical design
minimizes the following aberrations: spherical, color, field curvature,
coma, astigmatism, distortion and spherical distortion of the exit pupil.
The edges of the optical elements are blackened to minimize internal
reflections and increase contrast.
1-1/4” threaded barrels accept 1-1/4” Celestron filters.
*The 50mm has a 50° apparent field of view.
If you are looking to move up to a higher quality eyepiece the Omni series
provides more enhanced features in a wider selection of focal lengths.
Celestron designed this series with the finer points in mind so you, the
user, can benefit from the features that make this series unique. The Omni
is a 4 -element premium symmetrical Plössl optical design. Features include
blackened lens edges to minimize internal reflection and maximize contrast,
multi-layer coating group on each lens surface to maximize light
transmission and contrast, and each Omni goes through a two-step anodizing
process to prevent reflection from the top eyepiece barrel, unlike most
other manufactures who use reflective surfaces. Threaded barrels accept
1-1/4” Celestron thread-in filters.
† - Under most/normal atmospheric conditions magnifications greater than 200-300 power might provide unsatisfactory viewing due to turbulance of the air.
Rated as best in their class by Sky and Telescope magazine, the Ultima
eyepieces use a 5-element hybrid optical design. They feature long eye
relief and a wide field, and each air-to-glass surface is fully
multicoated to enhance contrast levels. These special eyepieces are
computer designed to keep visual aberrations to an absolute minimum. They
virtually eliminate the following aberrations: spherical, color, field
curvature, coma, astigmatism, distortion and spherical distortion of the
exit pupil. The inside surfaces and edges of all lenses are blackened, to
keep out reflected light. Outside surfaces are flat black, with rubber
grips for secure handling. Rubber eyecups are included both for
comfortable use and to keep out extraneous light. Threaded barrels accept
Celestron 1-1/4” thread-in filters. Lens and barrel caps are included for
safe storage.
If you are looking for an eyepiece that excels for planetary viewing, then
Celestron’s X-Cel offers the unique features you are looking for. A
6-element fully multi-coated optical design, the X-Cel utilizes extra low
dispersion (ED) glass on its most highly curved surfaces, to minimize
chromatic aberration that can hinder sharp planetary views. With a wide
55° apparent field of view, and a large 25mm clear aperture the X-Cel is
one of the most comfortable eyepieces to use. Every X-Cel eyepiece is
parfocal with each other, meaning little or no focusing is needed when
changing from low to high power. The X-Cel comes with soft rubber eyecups
and a durable plastic case. In addition, if you are an eyeglass wearer,
you will enjoy the 20mm eye relief available on each of the X-Cel focal
lengths. Threaded barrels accept 1 -1/4” Celestron thread-in filters.
† - Under most/normal atmospheric conditions magnifications greater than 200-300 power might provide unsatisfactory viewing due to turbulance of the air.
