Here are some solar photos that were taken with the Imaging Source DMK 41AF02.AS. I have been imaging the Sun on a nearly daily basis since 2003, have imaged the Sun over 180 days this year and sent over 2000 observations to ALPO Solar Section. Since the large sunspot in July, there have been no more spots for the past 31 days. I used some of the images in my presentation "Solar Minimum to the Max!" that I gave to the Alachua Astronomy Club.

| Here is the latest image I've taken of M42, shot from my Magnitude 2 or 3 bright sky in Northridge.
Image taken with an unmodified Canon 40D prime-focus mounted behind a Takahashi TOA-130 (your old scope). No polar alignment was done (scope was just plopped down facing in the North direction); no guiding or any other hocus-pocus maneuvers were used. I did not take or use any flats/darks/bias frames, and no field flattener or reducer was attached to the scope. Manual focus was used through the camera's live view feature. Overall seeing for the night was fair at best, with lots of high clouds floating through the area - limiting the total number of subs I could take. Finally, the moisture level in the air told me to quit.
DeepSkyStacker combined about 38 images, ranging from 1/2-second up to 30-seconds each. All images were shot at ISO 400. Final image levels and curves were applied in Photoshop CS4.
I am pleased with this "first light" photo through this telescope, despite the very limited number of subs I was able to take before stacking in DeepSkyStacker. |

Thursday, February 26, 2009 - Comet Lulin by Eddy Milanes
Taken from light polluted SIMI VALLEY looking towards more light polluted San Fernando Valley / LA
Imaging: Telescope was the FSQ 106 (old Q) with the Canon 20DA Camera (Camera Noise reduction on) and a light pollution Lumicon Deep Sky filter.
Auto guider: Piggy back was the Williams Optic 66 telescope with the Orion sky-shoot Auto guider at 5 second exposures.
Guided on the comet nucleus with the PhD Guiding program controlling the Losmandy G11 guide port.
The photo is the stacking of 8 exposures of 5 minute each (plus 5 min. for noise reduction). Stacked and Processed with PHOTOSHOP CS4.
The Comet nucleus was rather faint and the Orion Sky-shoot Autoguider tracked it for over 2 hours.

Sunday, October 26, 2008 - The Orion Nebula (M42) by Rob Johnson
This was taken last Sunday morning at 400mm f/5.6 60 sec ISO 1600. It turned out pretty well, but some of the other images I took indicate that I need to revisit filter issues for the clear filter modded camera. The sensor seems to be picking up light from either the far IR or the far UV. The IDAS UV/IR drop-in filter that Hutech supplies seems to leak somewhere within the range of the sensor. I am researching dye filters that block the far IR and the far UV and also the response characteristics of the Canon chip in the 50D and the far UV characteristics of the IDAS UV/IR filter.

| Here's one of the over-150 images I took the other morning of the eclipse at 2-minute intervals (programmable remote shutter control). This was taken at the exact moment of totality. It was awesome to see stars emerging from behind the darkened Moon as it slid silently through the night sky. This was worth staying up all night to capture. |
